Is It Against LinkedIn's Rules to Have Two Accounts? What the User Agreement Says

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Is it against LinkedIn's rules to have more than one account?

For personal profiles, yes. Section 2.1 of LinkedIn's User Agreement (the version effective 3 November 2025) makes it a condition of using the Services that you will only have one LinkedIn account, which must be in your real name. The Help Center page on joining says creating multiple profiles is not allowed, and the Professional Community Policies tell you not to create a profile for anyone other than yourself or to share your account.

This page was read on 3 October 2026. Policies change, so open the linked pages before relying on a detail. Nothing here is legal advice.

What LinkedIn's pages say

What is allowed instead of a second profile

  • A company presence. Pages are run by members who hold admin roles, using their own logins. See the Page roles guide.
  • More than one email address. The Help Center says you can add several to your account and sign in with any of them.
  • Role-based mailboxes are discouraged. The sign-up page asks you to avoid addresses tied to an office, position or function, such as marketing@company.com.
  • Product accounts. Learning, Recruiter and Campaign Manager have their own switchers under your one login, covered in the multi-login guide.

What LinkedIn can do when a rule is broken

  • Contract level. Section 3.4 says LinkedIn reserves the right to restrict, suspend or terminate your account if you breach the contract or the law or are misusing the Services.
  • Content and profile level. The Community Policies say that, depending on severity, content may be limited, labelled or removed, and that repeated or egregious offences can result in account restriction.
  • Restriction categories. The Help Center page on restrictions names content violations, profile violations, identity violations and automated tools. It says automated inauthentic activity can bring a temporary or permanent restriction.
  • Paid seats. On Recruiter licence sharing, LinkedIn says it gives warnings and temporary restrictions before permanent ones, but reserves the right to restrict permanently without warning.

If you already have two accounts

To avoid creating a duplicate by accident, LinkedIn's sign-in page says not to click Join now if you already have an account. If you do have two, the Help Center's duplicate-accounts pages describe two routes.

  1. Merge. Contact LinkedIn support. You need the login details and the profile URL of each account. The page says accounts with zero connections or more than 30k connections can't be merged, InMail credits are lost, and, where applicable, Premium, job postings and ad campaigns must be cancelled first. Profile content, edits, endorsements, recommendations, saved articles, group memberships and pending invitations are not merged. Merging requires signing in on a desktop or laptop.
  2. Close the extra account. The page describes this for the case where you can sign in to both and one has 0 connections. Sign in to that one, open Me, then Settings & Privacy, find Account management in Account preferences, click Change next to Close account and follow the prompts.
  3. Wait 48 hours after closing, then add the closed account's email to the remaining account. LinkedIn says this can help prevent other duplicates.

One side effect to know about: LinkedIn's workplace-verification page says that if a duplicate account that you closed or merged held a work-email verification, you must wait at least 365 days before you can verify your work email.

A checklist for teams and agencies

  1. One person, one account, in that person's real name.
  2. Nobody signs in as someone else. Use Page, Campaign Manager and Business Manager roles, as the client ad accounts guide also advises for ads.
  3. Do not register accounts on behalf of others.
  4. Do not use scrapers, bots or automation extensions on LinkedIn.
  5. Appeal honestly and once. Do not open a new account to carry on after a restriction.
  6. Re-read the pages now and then, since they change.

If you think LinkedIn got it wrong

Sign in and follow the on-screen prompts. For a restriction caused by content, LinkedIn says you can ask it to revisit its decision; for identity problems you verify your identity through its provider. Make the request once and truthfully, since misusing the appeals process is itself on the prohibited list. The sign-in checks guide lists the recovery pages.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. It cannot change what LinkedIn allows or how LinkedIn decides. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with LinkedIn.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple LinkedIn accounts?

Not as personal profiles. LinkedIn's User Agreement says you will only have one LinkedIn account, which must be in your real name, and the Help Center says creating multiple profiles is not allowed. Companies are represented through Pages, which are managed by members through admin roles, not through a second login.

Can you have two LinkedIn accounts with the same email?

The Help Center says an error that your email is already in use means the address is assigned to an existing account, and the sign-up page repeats that multiple profiles are not allowed. If you need several addresses for yourself, LinkedIn lets you add more than one email to your single account.

What happens if LinkedIn finds I have two accounts?

LinkedIn's Help Center treats it as something you may discover and offers a route to merge or close the duplicate. Separately, the User Agreement says LinkedIn may restrict, suspend or terminate an account if you breach the contract or misuse the Services, so resolve a duplicate promptly rather than keep using both.

Can I share my LinkedIn login with a colleague or assistant?

No. The User Agreement says members agree not to share or transfer their account or any part of it, and the Professional Community Policies say not to share your LinkedIn account with anyone else. Give colleagues access to Pages and ad accounts through roles that they use with their own accounts.

Are LinkedIn automation tools and browser extensions allowed?

LinkedIn's Help Center says it does not permit third-party software, including crawlers, bots and browser extensions, that scrapes, modifies the appearance of or automates activity on its website, and warns that members who use such tools risk restricted or shut-down accounts. The User Agreement prohibits unauthorized automated methods too.

Can I open a new account if mine is restricted?

The User Agreement lists not being already restricted by LinkedIn as a condition of using the Services, so a new account is not a way around a restriction. The Help Center says to sign in and follow the on-screen prompts to ask for a review or to verify your identity.
