Bluesky
Can a Team Manage a Bluesky Brand Account? Business Accounts, Domain Handles and Access
Does Bluesky have business accounts or team access?
Not in the pages Bluesky publishes. Its Help Center lists ten public articles (read 3 October 2026), and none covers business accounts, roles or delegated access. The Terms mention using Bluesky on behalf of a company or organisation, but they set up no separate account type or roles for it. On everything read for this guide, a brand account is an ordinary account with a handle, an email address and a password, controlled by whoever holds those. Because the Terms tell you not to share your account with others, plan around one accountable owner instead of a shared login.

Anchor the brand: domain handle, staff handles and verification
- Create the account at bsky.app. The Help Center says custom domain handles are set after creation: create the account with a .bsky.social handle first, then update it.
- Change the handle. Bluesky's April 2023 guide gives the path as Settings, Account, Handle, and describes proving you control the domain with a DNS record or a file on the website. Menus may have changed since, and the guide notes that "Brand accounts could set their handle to be their domain as well."
- Use subdomains for staff or sections if you need them. The same guide suggests a newsroom could give journalists handles like name.newsroom.com, or run separate accounts for verticals like sports.newsroom.com. Each person or vertical is its own account, not a shared login.
- Check the handle limits. Per the Help Center: at least 3 characters; up to 18 characters for the username part of a .bsky.social handle; up to 30 characters in total for a custom domain handle.
- Consider verification. In April 2025 Bluesky introduced a blue check for authentic and notable accounts, plus Trusted Verifiers, and points applicants to a form. The Community Guidelines forbid misrepresenting your verification status.
Brand-specific rules to keep in view
- Mark sponsored posts. The Community Guidelines say commercial, sponsored or advertising content must be clearly identified as such.
- Label unofficial accounts. The Guidelines name clearly labelled fan accounts, ones that say so in both the display name and the bio, as acceptable alternative identities. Bluesky Safety said in November 2024 that an account with only one of the two receives an impersonation label.
- Report impersonators. If someone poses as your brand, the Help Center's guidance on flagging abuse is to visit their profile, click the three-dot menu and report the whole account.
Who holds the keys: a hand-over plan
- Name one accountable owner per account. The Terms make the account holder answerable for anything done through the login.
- Put an organisation-controlled email on the account under Settings, Account, Update email. Sign-in codes, password-reset codes and deletion codes all go to that address.
- Switch on email two-factor authentication. Bluesky's April 2024 announcement says you can enable 2FA via email but gives no menu path, so look in the app's settings.
- Give tools App Passwords, not the account password. The Help Center says to generate one under Settings, Advanced, App Passwords to log in to third-party apps.
- Give people who post in their own voice their own accounts. That keeps every login with one person.
- Write down who holds what: which mailbox, which App Passwords, who may post.
Off-boarding when someone leaves
| Step | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Change the password | Settings (a password change was added in version 1.68) | A leaver should not hold a working password |
| Revoke their App Passwords | Settings, Advanced, App Passwords | Bluesky describes them as revokable |
| Move the account email if it was theirs | Settings, Account, Update email | If the current address was already verified, a code goes to it first |
| Report suspected misuse | support@bsky.app | The Terms ask for reports of a compromised account |
| Retire an account you no longer need | Settings, Account, Deactivate or Delete Account | The Help Center says deactivation can be reversed and deletion is permanent |
If the person who set the account up is gone
Use the Forgot link on the sign-in screen, and Bluesky emails a reset code to the account's address. If no email arrives, the Help Center says to write to support@bsky.app, and its other articles ask you to include your user handle, so give it. If nobody can read the account's mailbox, the pages read describe no self-service route, so contact support early. For code problems, read why Bluesky logs you out or asks for a code.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, a proxy can be set per profile, and profile data stays on your own computer. It adds no roles to Bluesky: access to each account remains with its owner under Bluesky's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Bluesky. See the profiles guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does Bluesky have business accounts?
Not as a separate account type in anything read for this guide. The Help Center's ten public articles do not mention business accounts, roles or delegation. Organisations use ordinary accounts, and Bluesky's domain-handle guide says brand accounts can set their handle to their domain.
How do I create a Bluesky business account?
Sign up at bsky.app like anyone else, then set your domain as the handle. Bluesky's Help Center says to create the account with a .bsky.social handle first and update it to a custom domain afterwards. Put an email address the organisation controls on the account.
Can a company use a Bluesky account?
Yes, with a condition in the Terms of Service: if you use Bluesky on behalf of a company or organisation, you confirm that you have the authority to represent it. The Community Guidelines also require sponsored or commercial content to be clearly identified.
Can several people share one Bluesky login?
The Terms tell you not to share your account with others, and the Community Guidelines list sharing accounts among abuses of Trust and Safety systems. The pages read describe no team-seat feature, so ask support@bsky.app how your organisation should handle several staff.
How do I create a Bluesky app password?
According to the Help Center (updated 2 October 2026), generate one under Settings, Advanced, App Passwords to log in to third-party apps. Bluesky Safety describes App Passwords as revokable, and a version 1.84 post says they can be created with access to DMs if a tool needs it.
Why is my Bluesky app password not working?
The pages read for this guide do not troubleshoot it. Because Bluesky describes app passwords as revokable, one that was revoked will stop working. Generate a new one in Settings, Advanced, App Passwords, and check whether the tool needs DM access.
