Does Discord Allow Multiple Accounts? What the Rules Say About Alts and Ban Evasion
Does Discord allow more than one account?
In the documents read for this guide, Discord does not forbid it in so many words and gives no number. The Terms of Service (effective 29 September 2025) contain no sentence about holding more than one account, and the Identity and Authenticity Policy Explainer does not address alternate accounts either. Discord's own Account Switcher takes up to five. What the rules regulate is behaviour: what you do with each account.
Discord also says it may act on any account it can determine belongs to the same user, so a serious violation on one account can reach the others. This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice, and the documents can change, so read the current text before you decide. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Discord's rules.
What each Discord document says
| Rule | Where it is stated | In plain words |
|---|---|---|
| Account responsibility | Terms of Service, section 4 | Give accurate information, keep the account secure, verify when asked, and do not license, sell, lend or transfer the account without Discord's prior written approval |
| Returning after a permanent ban | Community Guidelines; Identity and Authenticity explainer | Creating a new account, or reusing an existing one, after Discord removed you is prohibited, and so is recreating a removed server |
| Ban or block evasion toward people | Community Guidelines, Respect Each Other | Counted as harassment |
| Self-bots | Community Guidelines; Help Center page on self-bots | Automating a normal user account outside the bot API is forbidden and can lead to termination |
| Modified clients | Platform Manipulation explainer | Do not modify the Discord client, including to automate account actions |
| Spam and bulk messages | Terms section 9; Community Guidelines | No unsolicited bulk messages or auto-messaging; accounts registered for abuse can be actioned, including automated group registration for spamming |
| Buying and selling | Community Guidelines; Platform Manipulation explainer | No trading in accounts, usernames, servers, server permissions or custom invite links, whether you buy or sell |
| Identity | Identity and Authenticity explainer | Pseudonymous accounts are allowed; profiles that misrepresent who you are, and impersonation, are not; parody must be clearly labelled |
| Engagement | Platform Manipulation explainer | Purchased or induced engagement, or accounts used to inflate numbers such as server membership, count as inauthentic |
| Inactivity | Terms section 10; Inactive Account Deletion page | An account unused for two years or more can be scheduled for deletion, and logging in cancels it |
The Community Guidelines put the self-bot rule in one line: "Each account must be associated with a human, not a bot." Discord's Help Center adds that its API offers a separate bot account type for automation. That is the route Discord provides for anything automated.
What Discord can do when a rule is broken
The Warning System page (edited 5 June 2026) says a violation arrives as a direct message from Discord with a card naming the policy and the action taken. Your standing is shown under User Settings > My Account > Standing.
| Standing | What it means, per the Help Center |
|---|---|
| All good | No active violations and access to every feature |
| Limited | An active violation temporarily limits some features |
| Very Limited | One or more active violations limit more features for longer |
| At Risk | Any further violation may lead to a permanent suspension |
| Permanent suspension | Access is lost because of severe or repeated violations |
Most violations expire after 90 days, and more severe ones can stay active longer. The page says violations are not strikes and there is no formula from the number of violations to a penalty: Discord weighs severity, content type and your history. Temporary suspensions can last up to a year, and permanent ones do not expire.
Separately, the Limited Access FAQ says suspicious account behaviour can lead to Limited Access, where you cannot join new servers or start new direct messages. Section 10 of the Terms reserves Discord's right to suspend or terminate an account, with or without notice, including for breaching the Terms or Guidelines, or after more than two years of inactivity.
Using several accounts and staying inside the rules
- One person behind each account, and every account yours or one you are authorised to manage.
- Your own contact details on each account. The Terms say Discord contacts you at the email or phone number on the account if you are locked out.
- No automation on user accounts. Use an official bot account for anything automated.
- No modified clients. Run Discord as Discord ships it.
- No new account to return after a permanent ban. Use the review route instead.
- No buying, selling or lending accounts. To hand over a community, transfer the server, as described in managing a Discord server as a team.
- Label parody or brand-style accounts clearly, and do not imitate real people or organisations.
If an account is restricted: how to appeal
- Sign in to the account. The Warning System page says a suspended user can still log in to review their standing.
- Open User Settings > My Account > Standing and read each violation.
- Use the webform linked from the violation notice to ask Discord to review it. The EU DSA page also describes selecting Let us know in the standing window for covered decisions.
- Appeal the specific violation. Discord says you cannot appeal your overall standing.
- Keep it factual: which account, what happened, and why you think the decision was a mistake.
- If you live in the European Union, the Terms give you six months from the notice.
- Do not open a replacement account while you wait. Discord lists doing that after a permanent suspension as ban evasion.
With several accounts, keep a note of which email address belongs to which account before you contact support, because the Help Center login at support.discord.com is separate from the Discord app login. Questions about a sign-in screen rather than a penalty belong in why Discord keeps logging you out.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. It keeps the sign-ins of accounts you manage apart, lets you open, stop and organise profiles in bulk, and stores profile data on your own computer.
It does not change what Discord's rules ask of each account. Automating user accounts, modifying the client and returning after a permanent ban stay against the rules whichever tool you use. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Discord's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Discord.
Frequently asked questions
Is it against Discord's rules to have more than one account?
The Terms of Service (effective 29 September 2025) have no sentence limiting how many accounts a person holds, and Discord's own Account Switcher takes up to five. The rules still apply to every account, and Discord may act on any account it determines belongs to a user who breaks them.
Can Discord ban all my accounts if one is banned?
Discord's Account Switcher FAQ says that if a user violates the Terms or Guidelines it may take action on any account it can determine belongs to that user, including accounts in the switcher, and that the more severe the violation, the more likely action across accounts becomes.
What counts as ban evasion on Discord?
Discord's Identity and Authenticity explainer lists creating a new account after a permanent ban, recreating a server that Trust and Safety removed, and repurposing an existing account or server to return. The Community Guidelines also count ban or block evasion as harassment toward other people.
How do I appeal a Discord ban or suspension?
Sign in, open User Settings > My Account > Standing, and use the review form linked from the violation notice. Discord says you appeal specific violations, not your overall standing, and its Terms say residents of the European Union must appeal within six months of being notified.
Are self-bots and automation allowed on Discord?
No. Discord's Help Center says automating a normal user account outside the bot API is forbidden and can lead to termination, and its Community Guidelines say each account must belong to a human. Official bot accounts are Discord's separate route for automation.
Can you buy or sell Discord accounts?
No. The Community Guidelines prohibit selling or purchasing Discord assets, including accounts, usernames, servers, server permissions and custom invite links, and the Terms say you may not sell, lend or transfer your account without Discord's prior written approval.
