Discord
Can You Use Two Discord Accounts at the Same Time on One Computer?
Can you stay signed in to more than one Discord account on the same computer?
Yes, within limits. According to Discord's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), the Account Switcher lets people with several accounts move between them on desktop, and up to five accounts can be added. The page describes switching. It does not say that two accounts run side by side, and it does not mention the browser version or the mobile apps.
The pages read for this guide give no figure for how many accounts one person may own. The Terms of Service (effective 29 September 2025) contain no sentence about holding more than one account, so the practical limits are the five-account switcher and Discord's conduct rules, summarised in what Discord's rules say about multiple accounts. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Discord's rules.
What the Account Switcher does, and where the Help Center goes quiet
| Question | What Discord's Account Switcher FAQ says | Where the page is silent |
|---|---|---|
| Where does it work? | On desktop | The browser version and the mobile apps are not mentioned |
| How do I open it? | Click your avatar at the bottom left of the app, then choose Switch Accounts | The names of the buttons for adding an account |
| How many accounts? | You can log in to five | Whether all five stay connected at the same moment |
| What changes when I switch? | Some preferences reset (font scaling is the example given) and drafted messages are not stored | The complete list of preferences |
| Do my privacy settings change? | No, your Privacy & Safety settings stay as they are | Not applicable |
| Can other users see my other accounts? | No, it does not show other users which accounts you switch between | Not applicable |
| What if I break a rule? | Discord may act on any account it can determine belongs to you, including accounts in the switcher, and the more severe the violation the more likely action across accounts | How Discord decides that accounts belong together |
Because the FAQ names desktop only, treat the browser version as a separate case. Discord's system requirements page lists desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux and desktop browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge and Safari, and it says running Discord in a mobile browser is not supported.
How to add a second account in the desktop app
- Have the second account's sign-in details ready: its email address or verified phone number, its password, and its two-factor method if one is set up.
- Open the Discord desktop app and click your avatar at the bottom left. Choose Switch Accounts.
- Follow the prompts to add the account. The FAQ does not list the button names, so the wording on your screen may differ from a screenshot you find elsewhere.
- Discord's sign-in guide also describes QR login for the desktop app and the browser. If the sign-in screen offers a QR code, open User Settings in the Discord mobile app and choose Scan QR Code. The phone's app must be signed in to that same account, the code expires after 2 minutes, and you should approve only a login you started yourself.
- Before you type or change anything, look at the avatar at the bottom left to confirm which account is active.
- Stop at five. That is the number the FAQ gives for the switcher.
Other ways people keep two accounts open
| Option | Where | What Discord's pages say | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account Switcher | Desktop | Documented, up to five accounts | Some preferences reset and drafts are not kept |
Desktop app for one account, browser at discord.com/login for another | Computer | Both ways to sign in are documented, but not as a pair | A browser profile holds one set of site data |
| One browser profile per account | Browser | Not described by Discord; profiles are a browser feature | Needs a naming habit, see the profiles guide |
| Stable plus PTB or Canary | Desktop | Early-access builds that may have bugs; bug reports from several instances at once are listed as unsupported | No bug support, and test builds change often |
| Phone app plus computer | Phone and PC | QR login from the phone is documented | The phone app must be signed in to that account |
Discord's Testing Clients page presents PTB and Canary as early-access versions and says Canary is the most unstable one. Its Unsupported Bug Reports page lists using several instances of Discord on one device at the same time as a topic it will not take bug reports for. Running builds side by side is therefore a workaround, not a documented feature.
A separate browser profile is one way to keep the browser version apart: Chrome's Help says profiles keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate, and Chromium's documentation counts cookies as profile data. Step-by-step instructions are in separate browser profiles for Discord, and the general idea is explained in what a browser profile is.
Signing in to each account: password, phone number or QR code
Discord's sign-in guide lists two routes on desktop and in the browser: your email address or verified phone number with the password, entered at discord.com/login or in the app, or a QR code approved from the mobile app. Both the guide and the QR Code Login FAQ warn never to approve a QR login you did not generate yourself.
Three account-level rules matter once you have several accounts:
- Phone verification. The verification page says the phone number cannot be associated with an existing Discord account, VOIP, burner and landline numbers are not accepted, and a recently used number needs a 24 to 48 hour wait. Each account that must verify by phone needs its own number.
- Email addresses. The login troubleshooting page says that changing an account's email to an address already tied to a Discord account produces an error, so each account needs its own address.
- Unverified accounts. The sign-in guide warns that an account you have not verified risks losing access.
If it does not work
- Switch Accounts is missing. The FAQ describes a desktop feature, so confirm you are using Discord on a computer. Discord says a mobile browser is not supported.
- Settings or drafts disappear after a switch. That is the documented behaviour. Copy a draft before you switch.
- You are signed out or asked to verify. Read why Discord keeps logging you out for the official recovery steps.
- You need two accounts open in the browser at once. One profile keeps one set of site data for Discord, so give each account its own profile.
- QR sign-in opens the wrong account. QR login uses the account the phone app is signed in to, so check the phone first.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out, for example the browser version of Discord opened in each profile. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer.
Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Discord's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Discord.
Frequently asked questions
Can you use two Discord accounts at the same time?
On desktop, Discord's Account Switcher lets you add up to five accounts and move between them, according to Discord's Help Center (read 3 October 2026). The page describes switching rather than two accounts running side by side, and it lists no browser or mobile support.
How do I switch accounts on Discord on a PC?
Click your avatar at the bottom left of the Discord app and choose Switch Accounts. Discord's FAQ describes this as a desktop feature, says some preferences reset when you switch, and says drafted messages are not stored between accounts.
Can you have more than one Discord account?
Discord's Terms of Service (effective 29 September 2025) contain no sentence limiting how many accounts a person may hold, and the Account Switcher supports five. Discord can still act on any account it determines belongs to a user who breaks the rules, so each account must stay within them.
Can I use the same phone number for multiple Discord accounts?
Not for phone verification. Discord's verification page says the number you use cannot be associated with an existing Discord account, and that VOIP, burner and landline numbers are not accepted. If a number was used recently, the page says to wait 24 to 48 hours.
Can you use the same email for multiple Discord accounts?
Discord's login troubleshooting page says that if you try to change an account's email to an address already tied to a Discord account, you get an 'Email is already registered' error and are told to try another address. Plan one email address per account.
Does the Discord Account Switcher work in the browser or on mobile?
Discord's Account Switcher FAQ says it works on desktop and does not mention the browser version or the mobile apps. This guide covers computers. For the browser version, the practical plan is one browser profile per account.
