Why Does Meetup Keep Logging Me Out, Show a Login Error or Say My Account Is Disabled?
Why does Meetup keep logging me out or refuse my login?
When you cannot stay signed in on a desktop, Meetup's Help Center (read 3 October 2026) points first at the browser: security settings, cookies, cache, antivirus software and extensions. Its pages sort other login trouble into separate families, and the fix depends on which one you are in. An error about how you registered is a matter of sign-in method. A disabled account is a matter of account status. Groups that vanish after a login that worked may mean you opened a different account.
None of these pages describes a verification step that is specific to using several accounts on one computer; they describe the situations below. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Meetup's rules.
From symptom to cause to action
| What you see | What Meetup's pages give as the cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You are logged out again and again in a desktop browser | Browser security settings, cookie and cache settings, or antivirus software that does not allow Meetup.com | Review those settings, add Meetup.com to the antivirus allowed list, then retry |
| The message There was an error when logging in — please try again | Extensions that monitor or change what the browser sends, especially ad-blockers; they can also run in incognito windows | Pause extensions for meetup.com and retry |
| An error saying you are registered through a third party | You first signed up with Facebook, Google or Apple | Use that button on the login page, or create a Meetup password if you can no longer reach that account |
| Wrong-password message, or no reset email | A typo, or filtering: the reset email should arrive within five to ten minutes | Check spam and Gmail's Social tab, then request the reset once and wait |
| Account deactivated or disabled | Inactivity of more than six months, an email address that no longer receives Meetup mail, repeated reset requests, or flagged messages | Contact Meetup Support for a review |
| An email about a new or different login | Meetup's notice for a login it did not recognise; not necessarily a compromise | If it was you, nothing more is needed; if not, change your password immediately |
| Groups or events missing after a login that worked | Possibly a different account, one of several causes the Help Center lists | Check the email under Settings > Account Management |
When two accounts share one computer
The pages read do not describe what happens when two Meetup accounts are opened in the same browser, and they describe no list of active sessions and no sign-out-everywhere control. What they do say is that sign-in depends on cookies: the Cookie Policy says cookies enable you to log in to secure areas, and that removing or rejecting cookies can affect how the platform works. Clearing or blocking cookies is therefore one plain way to end up logged out.
Chromium's documentation says a profile folder holds data such as cookies, so it is sensible to treat one browser profile as holding one Meetup sign-in. Separate browser profiles for Meetup shows how, and what a browser profile is gives the background.
Meetup also says it emails the account address when it sees a new or different login. A steady routine makes those notices easier to read: open each account from the same browser profile and the same connection every time, and an unexpected notice stands out. It does not stop Meetup from sending notices; the guide to time zone, language and IP consistency explains why matching signals are simply good hygiene. Meetup's security page also advises signing out of public computers when you are done.
A login that will not stay: step by step
- Note exactly what you see: the message, whether it is the website or the app, and the browser. Meetup's support pages ask for screenshots or a screen recording and for how you log in (iOS or Android app, desktop web or mobile web).
- Review the browser's cookie and cache settings. Meetup's page on repeated logouts points to security settings, cookies and the cache.
- Open your antivirus settings and check that Meetup.com is on the allowed list.
- Pause ad-blockers, privacy tools and tracking-prevention extensions for meetup.com, then try again.
- Compare with another supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge, in the latest version) or with the mobile app. For a generic app error Meetup suggests uninstalling and reinstalling the app, or using the desktop version of the site meanwhile.
- Request a password reset once and wait up to ten minutes. Meetup says several reset requests in a short period can lead to a temporary security block.
- If nothing works, contact Support with your computer type (PC or Mac), operating system and version, browser and version, and any antivirus or spyware software.
What Meetup says about security checks
- CAPTCHA and passwords. Meetup says every web login is verified with a CAPTCHA challenge to block automated bots, and that a password needs at least ten characters, including upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. The pages read describe no two-factor code step and no list of signed-in devices.
- New-login emails. The notice goes to the email address on the account, and the location shown is approximate. Meetup says it can be affected by where the IP address is registered, by cellular IPs, and by VPNs or proxies.
- Automated review. The Digital Services Act page says account review software and third-party tools are used to detect spam and fraud, that accounts and content flagged by them may be automatically blocked, and that reported items may be queued for review by its Trust & Safety team.
If the account is disabled, blocked or restricted
- Contact Meetup Support. The pages call it Customer Support or Community Support. For a disabled account Meetup says it will review the account and help restore access if appropriate.
- Use the appeal routes. The Terms say to email policy@meetup.com, or to use the appeals link if you have a case ID, when you think a restriction, suspension or termination was made in error. The moderation page also points to Support, and, for people in the European Union, to the process on the Digital Services Act page, which allows an appeal within six months of the decision or statement of reasons.
- Do not work around the decision. Meetup's policies prohibit creating new accounts to get around a block or ban.
- Do not repeat reset requests. Many requests in a short period are one of the listed reasons for a temporary block.
- Do not close the account in frustration. Deactivation is permanent and cannot be undone.
Meetup says its moderation is meant to protect the community, not to discourage legitimate use.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED, a desktop app for Windows and macOS, keeps many browser profiles in one place. Because every profile has its own cookies, local data and browser settings, accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED does not change Meetup's own checks, notices or rules. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Meetup's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Meetup.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Meetup keep logging me out?
For a desktop browser, the Help Center points to browser security settings, cookie and cache settings, and antivirus software that does not allow the site. It says to check that Meetup.com is on the antivirus allowed list, then to contact Support with your computer type, operating system, browser version and antivirus names.
Why does Meetup say there was an error when logging in?
The Help Center says browser extensions, especially ad-blockers, can interfere with the connection between your browser and Meetup, and that an incognito window may not help because many extensions also run there. Pause them for meetup.com and try again, and tell Support which browser and extensions you use if it continues.
Why is my Meetup account disabled or blocked?
Meetup names inactivity of more than six months, an email address that no longer receives Meetup notifications or several password-reset requests in a short period, and messages reported by members or caught by spam filters. In each case you contact Meetup Support and ask for a review.
Why did Meetup send me a new-login email?
Meetup says it sends a notice to the account's email address when it detects a new or different login, and that receiving one does not necessarily mean the account was compromised. If you do not recognise the login, change your password immediately. The location in the email is approximate.
Meetup password reset not working: what should I do?
Meetup says the reset email should arrive within five to ten minutes. Check spam or junk, and the Social tab if you use Gmail; it is sent from info@accounts.meetup.com. If you registered through Facebook, Google or Apple you have no Meetup password, so use that button on the login page.
How do I appeal a Meetup account restriction?
Meetup's Terms say to email policy@meetup.com, or use the appeals link if you have a case ID, when you think a restriction was applied in error. Its moderation page also points to Support, and to the process on its Digital Services Act page for people in the European Union.
