Reddit Multiple Accounts Rules: What Is Allowed and What Counts as Ban Evasion

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Does Reddit allow more than one account?

Yes. Reddit's Help Center (read 3 October 2026) says you are welcome to create multiple Reddit accounts and can use the same email address to verify them. What the rules prohibit is what you do with accounts: voting with several of them on the same posts, using another account to carry on after a ban, padding a subreddit's subscriber count, automating account creation, or posing as someone you are not. The pages read state no cap on how many accounts one person may own.

What the policies say in plain words

Votes. Reddit's Disrupting Communities policy covers vote manipulation "whether manual, programmatic, or otherwise". Its list includes creating and using multiple accounts, voting services or automation to push counts up or down, coordinated voting by an organised group, and automated means to manipulate karma.

Pseudonyms. Reddit's Impersonation policy says you are free to use the platform without your real name or revealing your identity. What you may not do is misrepresent your identity or affiliation to mislead others. It encourages fan, parody and commentary accounts to say so, for example by marking the name or description as unofficial, and lists a brand's official community as not a violation.

Spam. Reddit defines spam as repeated or unsolicited actions, automated or manual, that harm redditors, communities or Reddit itself.

API and data access. The Responsible Builder Policy says you must not misrepresent or mask how or why you access Reddit data, and that this prohibits registering multiple accounts or submitting multiple requests for the same use case.

Community rules sit on top of sitewide rules

Each community's moderators set and enforce its own rules, and the Reddit Rules apply in addition. A community ban stops you posting or commenting there but lets you view it and stay a member. Reddit says that continuing to take part through another account breaks the rule against ban evasion and can bring further action, including sitewide bans.

Reddit adds that moderators decide who takes part in their communities, and that even if you disagree with the reason for a ban you should not try to evade it. The Help Center's route for a subreddit ban is mod mail. If the situation stays unresolved or the appeal is denied, it suggests trying a similar community instead.

What happens when a rule is broken

StepWhat Reddit's pages say
ToolsRemove content, send a warning, temporarily ban the account, permanently ban or terminate it, restrict the creation of new accounts, or remove privileges
How it is decidedBy the type and severity of the violation and the user's history. Some violations bring an immediate permanent ban. For others a warning can be followed by a 3-day ban, a 7-day ban, then a permanent ban
While bannedYou lose the ability to vote, post, comment, send chats, report content, create communities, edit wiki pages, edit posts and comments, or create self-serve ads. Moderators also lose their mod tools and mod mail
NoticeA message at the top of the site or app and an inbox notification with the reason and, for a temporary ban, how long it lasts
AppealWithin six months of the notice. Reddit may restrict appeals from people who submit unfounded or abusive ones

Staying inside the rules with several accounts

  1. Give each account its own clear purpose and name it honestly. A pseudonym is fine; misleading people about who you are or whom you represent is not.
  2. Never vote on the same post or comment from two of your accounts, and never coordinate votes.
  3. If one account is banned from a community, do not take part there with another. Appeal through mod mail.
  4. Do not automate posting, voting or account creation. If an app or bot is involved, register it as the Responsible Builder Policy requires.
  5. Get authorisation before speaking for a business or client, and be open about which brand you represent, as Reddit asks of Reddit Pro users.
  6. Keep each account's recovery email and two-factor details current, and never share a login.

If you are flagged or banned by mistake

  • A ban. Follow the instructions in the inbox notice, explain why you think it was a mistake, and do so within six months.
  • A spam or inauthentic-activity flag. Log in to the affected account in a browser, open the appeals page and submit the form. If you believe the account was wrongly associated with other accounts actioned for spam, the ban page links a report form.
  • A community filter. Reddit says its ban evasion filter for moderators is not fully accurate, and moderators can approve an account the filter flagged. Contact them through mod mail.
  • Someone else's violation. Reddit points to a web form for reporting vote manipulation or ban evasion.

The sign-in checks guide covers locks and verification prompts. A new account is not a remedy for any of these. Reddit lists restricting the creation of new accounts among its enforcement tools.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that organises many browser profiles. A profile holds its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can be signed in at the same time without logging each other out. It supports a proxy per profile and opening, stopping and organising profiles in bulk, with profile data kept on your own computer. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Reddit, and it changes neither Reddit's rules nor what they prohibit.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple Reddit accounts?

Yes. Reddit's Help Center says you are welcome to create multiple accounts and may use the same email address to verify them. The one instruction it adds is not to vote with your accounts on the same posts or comments, which it treats as vote manipulation.

How many accounts can you have on Reddit?

The pages read for this guide state no cap on how many accounts a person may own. They describe limits on behaviour instead, such as voting, ban evasion, spam and impersonation. Reopen the Help Center page if a number matters to you.

Does Reddit know if you have multiple accounts?

Reddit's pages do not describe how it links accounts. They say multiple accounts are fine, that using them for vote manipulation, ban evasion or spam is not, and that Reddit combines reports from moderators and users with internal systems to judge whether behaviour breaks a policy.

What is Reddit ban evasion?

Reddit's Help Center describes it as being banned from a community and then using another account to keep taking part there, or recreating a banned community. Both violate the Reddit Rules and can lead to a sitewide suspension. Ban appeals go to the moderators through mod mail.

Can you get banned for having multiple accounts on Reddit?

Not for owning them, according to the Help Center pages read. Bans come from rule violations such as vote manipulation, ban evasion, spam or impersonation, which can involve several accounts. Enforcement ranges from a warning to a permanent ban, and you can appeal within six months.

Why was my Reddit account suspended for vote manipulation?

Reddit's Disrupting Communities policy lists creating and using multiple accounts, voting services or automation to raise or lower vote counts, coordinated voting with an organised group, and automated karma manipulation. If you think the action was a mistake, follow the appeal instructions in the notice within six months.
