Is It Allowed to Have Two Signal Accounts? What Signal's Terms Say
Is it allowed to have two Signal accounts?
Signal's Terms of Service do not say how many accounts one person may hold, according to the text read on 3 October 2026. What they do say shapes the answer: an account is tied to a phone number, a disabled account cannot simply be replaced, and certain uses are off limits however many accounts you run. The Help Center then adds practical limits on numbers and devices.
So the rules are less about a count and more about how you use accounts and what happens after a disable. The sections below take the Terms first, then the Help Center, then what to do in practice.
What do Signal's Terms of Service say, point by point?
The table paraphrases the Terms at signal.org/legal (read 3 October 2026). The wording of the Terms prevails.
| Topic | What the Terms say | What it means for several accounts |
|---|---|---|
| Age | Users must be at least 13; the minimum age without parental approval may be higher in your home country | Applies to whoever holds each account |
| Creating an account | You register with your phone number and agree to receive SMS or calls with verification codes | Each account needs a number you can receive on |
| After a disable | Once Signal has disabled an account for breaking the Terms, you are not to open a replacement unless Signal agrees | Opening a new account to carry on after a disable breaks the Terms |
| Acceptable use | Only legal, authorised and acceptable purposes; illegal or impermissible communications such as bulk messaging, auto-messaging and auto-dialing are listed | Applies to every account you run |
| Sign-ups | Creating accounts through "unauthorized or automated means" is listed as unauthorised use | Sign-ups done by script are out |
| Account security | Keeping both your device and your Signal account secure is your responsibility | Keep codes, PIN and recovery key to yourself |
| Consequences | Signal may change, suspend or end your access whenever it chooses, for example after a breach of the Terms or conduct that exposes Signal to harm or legal risk | A disabled account is Signal's decision, not a bug |
What does the Help Center add about numbers, devices and inactivity?
| Rule on record | What the Help Center says | Page |
|---|---|---|
| One number per phone | A mobile device can carry only one registered number | Dual Sim |
| One mobile device at a time | The account sits on one mobile device at a time, with up to five secondary devices linked to it | Troubleshooting multiple devices |
| Separate numbers at work | Every phone gets its own number, and one number cannot cover several phones | Can I use Signal for work? |
| Inactivity | An account left inactive for 120 days is deleted; deliberate deletion is done from the phone where the account was set up, since Signal cannot confirm by email that an account is yours | Delete Account |
| Why numbers exist | Numbers let people see which contacts are on Signal, and Signal says this also keeps spam down | Phone Number Privacy and Usernames |
| No number | Signal Login is an optional Android route to an account without a phone number; Signal cannot recover it if both keys are lost | Phone Numberless Registration for Android |
The Dual Sim page (updated 30 July 2026) predates the Signal Login page (updated 17 September 2026), and the Signal Login page does not discuss holding several accounts. The Terms text read also still describes registering with a phone number, whereas the Signal Login page describes an account without one. On how an account can be created, the Help Center page is the more specific source; the Terms remain the reference for acceptable use. Where Signal is silent, this guide does not guess.
How do you stay inside the rules with more than one account?
- Use numbers you own. Each account needs a number that can receive an SMS or call, and the Help Center says to keep ownership of the number you registered with.
- Keep secrets to yourself. Signal's safety page tells you to keep SMS verification codes, recovery keys, passwords and payment details private, and says Signal will never request any of them in a chat or call.
- Do not automate. The Terms name bulk messaging, auto-messaging, auto-dialing and automated account creation as off limits.
- Report spam instead of replying. The safety page lists reporting spam and blocking from the message request or from chat settings.
- Keep each account alive and yours. Open Signal on the primary phone regularly because of the 120-day rule, and do not hand an account to someone else.
- For teams, use groups. One account per person and a group for the shared space; see Signal for work and teams.
What if Signal locks or disables your account?
Three situations get confused, and Signal's pages treat them differently.
- A PIN or registration lock. A forgotten PIN with the lock switched on can keep you out for up to 7 days; the lock lapses after 7 days without activity and a new PIN can then be set. Signal cannot reset a PIN. This is a security feature, not a penalty.
- A yellow banner saying the account is no longer active. The safety page says the banner asks you to re-register or link your device. To re-register you need to receive an SMS or call on the number, which the travel page also stresses.
- An account disabled for breaking the Terms. The Terms say you will not create another account without Signal's permission. The official way to ask Signal about an account is Contact Us, either from the app (Settings, Help, Contact us) or through the web form. Signal says its Support never reaches out first and that real contact comes from an @signal.org address, not from inside the app.

Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED does not change what Signal's Terms allow. If you hold more than one Signal account in line with those Terms, each with its own number, you may want an orderly place to keep them. ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS with Android phone profiles, each with its own device configuration, for using mobile apps on a PC; profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and their data stays on your own computer. Use it only for accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Signal's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Signal.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have two Signal accounts?
The Terms of Service read on 3 October 2026 give no maximum number of accounts per person. In practice Signal's Help Center lets a mobile device hold only one registered number, and each phone in a company needs its own number. Two accounts therefore mean two numbers, each used within the Terms.
Can a Signal account be banned?
The Terms let Signal change, suspend or end your access whenever it chooses, for example if you break the Terms or expose Signal to harm or legal risk. After a disable for a violation, the Terms bar you from opening a replacement account without Signal's permission.
Does a Signal account get banned for bulk or automated messaging?
The Terms say Signal may only be used for legal, authorised and acceptable purposes, and name bulk messaging, auto-messaging and auto-dialing as impermissible communications. They also list creating accounts by scripted means as unauthorised use. Signal can suspend or terminate access for violations.
Why is my Signal account locked?
A lock is usually the registration lock tied to your PIN. Signal's PIN page says a forgotten PIN with the lock switched on can keep you out for up to 7 days, and that Signal cannot reset a PIN for you. This is different from an account disabled for breaking the Terms.
Can I have multiple Signal accounts on one phone number?
The Help Center says every phone gets its own number and that one number cannot cover several phones. The Terms tie account creation to a phone number. Signal Login, an optional Android route without a number, is described separately and its page does not discuss holding several accounts.
Can two people use one Signal account?
The Terms put the security of your device and your account on you, and Signal's safety page says to keep verification codes, recovery keys, passwords and payment details private. Signal's work page says each phone registers with a separate number. A team shares a group chat, not a login.
