Can You Have 2 Accounts on Telegram Desktop or Web at the Same Time?
Can you stay signed in to two Telegram accounts on one computer?
Yes, within limits. Telegram's FAQ (read 3 October 2026) says one Telegram app can be logged in to several accounts at once, and that you can switch between them without logging out. Every phone number is its own account, so a second account needs a second number.
This guide covers the Telegram desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux), the native macOS app and Telegram Web in a browser. Telegram's pages describe multiple accounts for "a Telegram app" in general. They give no separate desktop menu path and no account switcher for Telegram Web, and this guide does not invent one.
Two things people mean by "at the same time"
The question hides two different setups, and Telegram treats them differently.
- One account on many devices. The FAQ says you can log in from as many of your devices as you like, all at once, using the same phone number. Your cloud chats sync between them. The FAQ presents this as ordinary use.
- Several accounts in one app. This is the multi-account feature: separate numbers, separate accounts, one app that lets you switch.
If you only want your own chats on a second computer, you need the first setup, not a second account.
What Telegram's own pages say about accounts, numbers and devices
| Question | What Telegram says | Where |
|---|---|---|
| One account per phone number? | Every phone number is its own account. A second account on a second number is allowed, and the FAQ's own example is keeping work and personal chats apart. | FAQ, "I have a new phone number" |
| Any kind of number? | An account has to sit on a mobile number. Landline numbers are not supported. | FAQ, Troubleshooting |
| Several accounts in one app? | Yes, and you can switch between them without logging out. | FAQ, "How do I log out?" |
| How many? | Up to three accounts (2017 Android post, 2019 iOS post). A fourth account is listed as a Premium extra (June 2022 post). The FAQ states no number today. | Telegram blog |
| Same account on several devices? | Allowed all at once, with the same phone number. | FAQ, "Which devices can I use?" |
| Premium and several accounts? | Each account needs its own Premium subscription. | Premium FAQ |
The number comes from posts dated 2017 to 2022, so treat it as a starting point and check your own app.
Adding the second account, step by step
- Have the second account's mobile number ready. The FAQ asks for international format: country code first.
- In the Telegram app on your computer, use the app's own option to add an account. Telegram's 2019 post, which is about its mobile apps, puts Add Account under Settings, then Edit. The pages read for this guide name no desktop path.
- Enter the second number. Telegram sends the login code by SMS, or may send it inside Telegram when that account is already logged in on another device. In that case look in the chat named Telegram, a verified profile with a blue check.
- If that account has 2-Step Verification, enter its password as well. A passkey can replace the SMS code where the account has one.
- Open Settings, then Devices, and check that the new session is listed as you expect.
On Telegram Web the picture is simpler. Telegram's apps page lists two web clients, Web K and Web A. The Web K sign-in screen (read 3 October 2026) offers three ways in: QR code, phone number or passkey. For the QR code, open Settings, then Devices, then Add Device on your phone, and point the phone at the screen.
What the accounts share on one computer
- Secret chats belong to one device and one login. The FAQ says they exist only on the device where they were started, are tied to the current login session, and are lost if you log out and back in. Cloud chats stay.
- Notifications can arrive from every account. Telegram's posts say push notifications come from all added accounts and show which account received each message. The 2017 Android post says you can change this in notification settings.
- A shared computer needs a passcode. The FAQ suggests a passcode under Settings, then Privacy and Security, when Telegram runs on a shared device.
- One browser profile holds one web login. Chromium's documentation lists cookies among the data stored per profile, so every window of one profile reads the same stored site data.
Your options on one computer
| Option | What it keeps apart | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Several accounts inside one Telegram app | Chats and sessions of each account | A personal and a work account used by one person | The per-app limit; secret chats disappear on logout |
| One Telegram Web login per browser profile | Cookies and site data of each profile | Accounts used by different people or roles | A fresh sign-in in every profile |
| Second account on the phone, first on the PC | The accounts live on different devices | Occasional use of the second account | Codes and QR scans need the phone nearby |
| The same account on two computers | Nothing: one account, several devices | One person at two desks | Both computers see the same cloud chats |
The profiles guide walks through the second row. If the idea is new to you, read what a browser profile is first. A private window is only a temporary extra session, as the comparison with VPNs and private browsing explains.
If adding or switching does not work
- No code arrives. Check the number format. The FAQ says login codes dictated by phone call exist only for accounts with 2-Step Verification, and that landlines are not supported. If the account is open elsewhere, look for the code in the Telegram chat on that device.
- You reached the account limit. The posts give three, or four with Premium. Log one account out first, remembering that this ends its secret chats on that device, or move one account to a separate browser profile.
- The number is taken. When you change a number and another Telegram account already uses the target number, the FAQ says to delete that account first.
- An account has vanished. Telegram deletes accounts that stay offline for 18 months by default, and you can change the period in Settings (FAQ).
- You keep getting signed out. Read why Telegram logs you out or asks you to confirm a login.
- A new account is limited right after sign-up. The Spam FAQ points to @SpamBot, and the rules guide above explains the limits.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage, such as separate Telegram Web logins, can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. A proxy can be set per profile and assigned to many profiles in bulk, and profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk. Profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED also offers Android phone profiles for mobile apps on a PC. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Telegram and does not change Telegram's rules.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have 2 accounts on Telegram?
Yes. According to Telegram's FAQ (read 3 October 2026), every phone number is its own account, and a second account on a second number is allowed, with work versus personal chats given as the example. One Telegram app can hold several logged-in accounts at once, and you can switch between them without logging out.
Can you use multiple Telegram accounts on a PC?
Telegram's FAQ lists a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, a native macOS app and Telegram Web, and says one Telegram app can hold several accounts. It gives no desktop-specific menu path or limit, so follow the app's own prompts and check the limit inside your app.
Can you have multiple Telegram accounts on the same phone number?
No. The FAQ says every phone number is its own account, so a second account needs a second number, and it has to be a mobile number because landlines are not supported. You can move an account to a new number, but if another account already uses that number you must delete the other account first.
Does Telegram Web support 2 accounts?
The Telegram pages read for this guide describe signing in to Telegram Web by QR code, phone number or passkey, but they describe no account switcher. To keep two web logins side by side, give each one its own browser profile.
How many Telegram accounts can you use at once?
Telegram's 2017 and 2019 blog posts say up to three accounts, and its June 2022 Premium post lists a fourth account as a Premium extra. The FAQ no longer states a number, so check the limit in your own app.
What happens to secret chats when I log out of a Telegram account?
Telegram's FAQ says logging out keeps your cloud messages, but you lose your secret chats and the messages inside them, because secret chats are tied to the device and to the current login session.
