Two Tumblr Accounts, One PC: Keep Both Signed In with Separate Browser Profiles
Can separate browser profiles keep several Tumblr accounts signed in at once?
Yes, for sign-ins and saved data. Chrome Help (read 3 October 2026) says profiles let you keep bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate, and it names keeping work and personal accounts apart as a reason to use one. Chromium's documentation describes each profile as a subdirectory holding data such as history, bookmarks and cookies. Tumblr says it requires browser cookies to work, staying signed in included. A Tumblr login made inside one profile therefore stays in that profile.
What a profile does not do: it runs on the same computer and connection, it does not change what Tumblr's rules allow, and it is not a lock, because Chrome Help warns that anyone with your device can switch to another profile.
Which Tumblr setups need their own profile?
| Setup | Own profile? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A primary blog and its secondary blogs | One profile for the account | One login; switch blogs inside Tumblr |
| Two accounts, each with its own email address | One profile each | Tumblr allows one primary blog per email address |
| A teammate's account | Their own computer or operating-system account | Each person signs in with their own login |
| A group blog you only post to | The profile of the member account you use | The member account is what signs in |
Firefox has a related feature, Containers. Mozilla's design page calls them persistent contexts that isolate sites and lists cookies, localStorage, IndexedDB and caches as separated, while history and bookmarks are not. The steps below use Chrome, whose Help page was read for this guide; other browsers have their own profile menus.
How do you set up one profile per Tumblr account?
- Plan the names first. One line per account, such as
Acme - acmeblog - editor. - Open Chrome, select the profile icon at the top right, then choose Add Chrome profile.
- Choose a name, photo and colour scheme. Give each brand its own colour so the wrong profile stands out.
- Decide about Chrome sign-in. Chrome Help says that signing in to Chrome with a Google Account makes the profile name that account's name, and lets bookmarks, passwords and other settings be saved to the account. Think before doing this on a client's profile.
- Open tumblr.com in that profile only and log in. Keep cookies enabled for tumblr.com.
- Turn on two-factor authentication and store the backup codes safely. Tumblr strongly recommends a password manager and says not to save passwords in a web browser.
- Keep extensions minimal. Tumblr's troubleshooting page lists ad-blockers, anti-tracking extensions and XKit among the extensions to try disabling when the site misbehaves.
- Repeat for each account, and check the profile icon before you act.
How should you name, hand over and back up profiles?
| Practice | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Naming | Brand, blog URL, role, in that order | You spot the wrong profile before you post |
| Hand-over | Add the person's own Tumblr account to a group blog | Tumblr says not to share passwords; roles are admin and member |
| Backups | Use Export for each blog on the web and download the file promptly | Backups are kept for 3 days, with 4 exports per blog per month |
| Retiring a profile | Remove it only after hand-over | Chrome Help says removal erases the profile's bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings |
| Account deletion | Treat it as separate from deleting a profile | Deleting the primary blog deletes the account, and data is kept for 30 days |
| Recovery | Keep the account's email, password and backup codes | Without the email, Tumblr cannot help recover the account |
If you copy profile folders for safekeeping, treat the copy like a password: Chromium lists cookies among what a profile stores.
What if Tumblr misbehaves inside one profile?
- Check the profile icon. Are you in the profile you meant?
- Check the active blog. Use the blog switcher or the Account menu inside Tumblr.
- Check cookies. Tumblr says to confirm cookies are enabled, to clear Tumblr.com-specific cookies if old login details linger, and that third-party cookie blocking may interfere.
- Disable extensions, then add them back one at a time.
- Compare with another browser. Tumblr's page suggests trying an alternate browser; a fresh profile with no extensions is a quick first comparison.
- If you see 'Rate limit exceeded', wait and try later. Tumblr's page says a VPN that shares one IP address across many users can cause it.
- Review Active Sessions in your account settings. It lists browsers and locations from the past 30 days, and you can end any you do not recognise. The full list of causes is in why Tumblr keeps logging you out.
When do ordinary profiles stop being enough?
| Sign | What helps |
|---|---|
| The profile list no longer fits in a spreadsheet or in your head | Opening, stopping and organising profiles in bulk |
| Accounts need their own network settings | A proxy per profile; see proxy types explained |
| You are weighing incognito windows, VPNs and profiles | Antidetect browser vs VPN vs incognito |
| Several people need the same blog | A group blog, not a shared profile |
None of these changes Tumblr's rules, and none replaces each person's own login. Read what a browser profile is for the general picture.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles in one place. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so Tumblr accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and a proxy can be set per profile and assigned to many profiles in bulk. Profile data stays on your own computer. Android phone profiles cover mobile apps on a PC. See how to install ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Tumblr.
Frequently asked questions
How do I log into multiple Tumblr accounts on one computer?
Open a separate browser profile for each account, for example with Add Chrome profile in the profile menu, and sign in to Tumblr only inside it. Each profile keeps its own cookies and settings, so one Tumblr login does not replace another. Name each profile after its blog.
Do I need a separate profile for each of my Tumblr blogs?
No. Secondary blogs sit under the same login as your primary blog, so one profile per account is enough; switch blogs inside Tumblr. You need another profile only for a second account, which Tumblr's Help Center says requires a different email address.
What happens to my Tumblr account if I delete a Chrome profile?
Chrome Help says removing a profile erases its bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings from the computer. The Tumblr account is not deleted, because deleting the primary blog does that, but you lose the saved sign-in. Keep the email, password and backup codes first.
How do I back up a Tumblr blog before I change anything?
On the web, open Settings, select the blog and use Export. Tumblr's Help Center says exports are web-only, each blog is exported separately, backups are kept for 3 days and 4 exports per blog per month are allowed.
Is there an app for using multiple Tumblr accounts?
Tumblr's Help Center does not point to an app for running several accounts. Its Connected Apps page says Tumblr did not build third-party apps and cannot support them, advises granting permission only to apps you trust, and says access can be revoked from the apps settings. Separate browser profiles are an ordinary browser feature and do not involve giving an app access to your Tumblr account.
