Can You Use Two Goodreads Accounts on the Same Computer at the Same Time?
Can you be signed in to two Goodreads accounts at once on one computer?
In practice, yes, but only when each account has its own browser profile or its own browser. According to Goodreads' sign-in page and Cookies Notice (read 3 October 2026), you sign in through one of a few routes and Goodreads then recognises your browser through cookies. None of the pages read for this guide describes an account switcher on the website, and one browser profile keeps one set of cookies.
The footer of Goodreads' pages links to apps for iOS and Android, so everything below is about the website in a desktop browser.
How do you sign in to Goodreads?
The sign-in page and the sign-up page offer different routes, so note which route each of your accounts uses.
| Route | Sign-in page | Sign-up page | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Continue with Amazon | Continue with Amazon | The Privacy Policy says Goodreads LLC is a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. |
| Apple | Continue with Apple | Continue with Apple | Note which of your accounts use it |
| Continue with Google | Not offered | Appears on the sign-in page only | |
| Sign in with email | Sign up with email | The email page has Email and Password fields, a Keep me signed in checkbox and a Password assistance link | |
| Not offered | Not offered | No Facebook button on either page |
The Privacy Policy (last updated 27 June 2023) adds that if you have an Amazon.com account, information gathered by Goodreads may be correlated with what Amazon already holds about you. That is a reason to decide on purpose which route belongs to which account, and to write it down beside the account's email address.
What happens when a second account signs in on the same browser?
Goodreads does not describe this on the pages read, so rely on what is documented. Its Cookies Notice (updated 30 October 2024) says cookies are how it recognises you once you have signed in. Chromium's documentation lists cookies among the data kept in a profile, and Chrome Help says a profile keeps bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate.
Together that points to one Goodreads session per profile. Inside a single profile, expect a new sign-in to replace the old one, because both would use the same cookies. Treat that as a sensible expectation, not as a Goodreads promise. A second profile has its own cookies and so its own session.
What are your choices for keeping two accounts open on one PC?
| Choice | How it works | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Sign out, then sign in | You use one account at a time | Every switch means signing in again through that account's own route |
| Two browsers | For example Chrome for one account and Firefox for the other | You have to remember which browser holds which account |
| A browser profile per account | In Chrome, choose Profile, then Add Chrome profile; Chrome Help says each profile keeps your info separate | You must open the right profile each time; the profiles guide has the steps |
| Firefox containers | Mozilla says containers let you keep several logins to one site open together, even on sites that offer no way to do so themselves | History and bookmarks stay shared, and saved passwords are not isolated by design |
| The Goodreads phone app | A separate session on your phone | It does nothing for a session on the PC |
Profiles keep apart what your browser saves; the machine and its internet connection stay the same. What a browser profile is covers the basics, and the comparison guide explains where private windows and VPNs fit.
What goes wrong when two accounts share one computer?
- Posting from the wrong account. The Privacy Policy says any User Content you post becomes available to the public through the service, so a review or comment appears under whichever account is signed in. Check the name before you post.
- Two entries in one giveaway. Goodreads' Giveaway Terms give each person and each household a single entry per giveaway, made with one Goodreads and Amazon account. Two accounts in one home entering the same giveaway is exactly the case that rule addresses.
- Mixing up sign-in routes. If you cannot remember whether an account uses Amazon, Apple, Google or an email password, the Password assistance page asks for the email address associated with the Goodreads account.
- Cookies blocked or cleaned. According to the Cookies Notice, services that need a sign-in stop working when a browser blocks or refuses Goodreads' cookies.
- Someone else on your login. The Terms of Use make you responsible for everything done under your account and password, and ask you to report unauthorised use to Goodreads without delay.
What if you still cannot get in?
- Goodreads keeps signing you out. Start with why Goodreads keeps logging you out.
- You are not sure which route an account uses. Try each email address you might have used on the Password assistance page.
- The sign-in page is no help. It carries a Get help with signing in link to Goodreads' Help Center, and the Contact us page has a form with a My account topic.
- You want to merge or link two accounts. The pages read for this guide say nothing about it, so ask Goodreads through its Help Center at help.goodreads.com.
Where ADSSPEED fits
If you look after several Goodreads accounts of your own, ADSSPEED can keep each in a separate browser profile. It is a desktop app for Windows and macOS: every profile has its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so one account's sign-in does not push another's out, and profiles can be opened, stopped and sorted in bulk. Your profile data stays on your own computer. You still sign in to every account through whichever route Goodreads offers, and nothing here changes what Goodreads allows. For setup, see installing ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Goodreads.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have two Goodreads accounts?
The Terms of Use text read for this guide contains no sentence on how many accounts one person may hold. Goodreads' guidelines do rule out accounts created to harass others, abuse features, get around its rules or sway ratings, and its Giveaway Terms give each person and household a single entry, made with one account.
Can you be logged in to two Goodreads accounts at the same time on one computer?
The Goodreads pages read describe no account switcher, and Goodreads says cookies are how it recognises you after sign-in. In one browser profile, plan on one account at a time. Two accounts can stay signed in together when each sits in its own browser profile, because each profile keeps its own cookies.
How do you sign in to Goodreads with Amazon, Apple, Google or email?
According to the sign-in page read on 3 October 2026, the options are Continue with Amazon, Continue with Apple, Continue with Google and Sign in with email. The sign-up page lists Amazon, Apple and email only. Note which route each of your accounts uses.
Can you sign in to Goodreads with Facebook?
The sign-in and sign-up pages read on 3 October 2026 show no Facebook button, and they do not say what to do if you signed in with Facebook in the past. Try Password assistance, which asks for the email address associated with the account, or ask Goodreads through its Contact us form under the My account topic.
Is there a Goodreads app for Windows or Mac?
The footer of Goodreads' website links to apps for iOS and Android, and none of the pages read for this guide mentions a Windows or macOS app. On a computer you use the website in a browser.
Do you need an Amazon account to use Goodreads?
Not to sign up, according to the sign-up page read on 3 October 2026, which also offers Apple and email. An Amazon account does matter for Goodreads Giveaways: their terms say you need both a Goodreads account and an Amazon account to enter or receive a prize.
