Can You Be Logged In to Two Substack Accounts at Once on One Computer?

Can you be logged in to two Substack accounts at once on one computer?

Substack documents a way to switch between publications, but not between two separate accounts. According to Substack's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), one account can hold up to 10 publications and a Dashboard menu moves you between them; the pages read describe no account switcher for the website or the app.

On a computer, Substack is a website. The Help Center page on finding the app describes installing it on iOS and Android and mentions no Windows or macOS app, and another page recommends the most recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge. Two accounts can stay open side by side when each one sits in its own browser profile or its own browser.

What counts as an account, and what counts as a publication?

The Help Center's reader guide says an account is created automatically from the email address you enter when you subscribe to a publication, and that it serves as a private login for subscriptions and payments. Publications sit under that account. So many people who say two Substacks need one login with a second publication, not a second login. This table maps common goals to the route Substack documents.

How do you switch between publications on one account?

  1. Sign in at substack.com/sign-in; the Sign in button is at the top right of the homepage.
  2. Click the down arrow next to Dashboard.
  3. Select the publication you want to view or publish from.
  4. To check the full list, click your profile icon, choose Settings and look under Publications.

If an error says you have created too many publications, you have reached the cap the Help Center describes. Payments are per publication too: the Help Center says two publications cannot share one Stripe account, although each can pay out to the same bank account.

What if you really have two separate accounts?

Each account is tied to its own email address, and the sign-in route is the same for both. The Help Center says you choose an emailed verification code or a password, then paste the code or select the link in the same email. In the Substack app the link works once and expires after ten minutes. Three cautions from the Help Center pages:

  • Wrong account, missing subscription. The reader guide says a paid subscription that shows as free may mean you mistyped the email or have multiple accounts. Sign in with the address you paid with.
  • Changing an email can move data. Changing the email works on the website only. If you enter the address of an existing account, all subscriptions, publications and other data go to that account, and you are signed out of the website and the app.
  • One browser, one login. Substack's Privacy Policy says its essential cookies are what remember your login on the website. A browser profile holds one set of cookies, so a second account needs its own profile.

Which options exist for two accounts on one PC?

OptionWhat you getLimits
One account, several publicationsOne login and a Dashboard menuUp to 10 publications; no merging; one Stripe account per publication
Sign out, then sign in againThe other account in the same browserOne at a time; a new emailed code or link for each switch (profile icon > Sign out)
Two different browsersTwo accounts open togetherYou must remember which browser holds which account
One browser profile per accountAccounts open together; Chrome Help says a profile keeps bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings apartYou must open the right profile each time; see the profiles guide
Substack app on a phoneA separate sign-in on the phoneThe Help Center describes iOS and Android only

A profile separates data stored on your computer, not the computer or its connection. What a browser profile is explains the idea, and the comparison guide covers how private windows and VPNs differ.

What if it still fails?

  • The email never arrives. Check spam, junk and the Gmail Promotions tab, confirm the address is typed correctly and add no-reply@substack.com to your contacts. The Help Center notes possible delays at providers such as yahoo.com, verizon.net and aol.com.
  • You keep getting signed out. Read why Substack keeps logging you out.
  • You cannot tell which account holds a publication. Sign in, open Settings and read the Publications list for that account.
  • Nothing helps. Use the chatbot at substack.com/support. If it cannot answer, the Help Center says it creates an email ticket for Substack's support team.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data is kept on your own computer. It does not change what Substack allows: you still sign in to each account the way the Help Center describes. Setup is in installing ADSSPEED on Windows. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Substack.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have more than one Substack?

One account can run up to 10 publications, according to the Help Center (read 3 October 2026), so a single login can cover several newsletters. A separate account needs its own email address, because accounts are created from the address you enter. The pages read give no cap on accounts and describe no switcher between them.

How do I switch accounts on Substack?

The Help Center describes switching publications: while signed in, click the down arrow next to Dashboard and pick the publication. It describes no switcher between two accounts, so you either sign out from the profile menu and sign in with the other email, or keep each account in its own browser profile.

Is there a Substack app with multiple accounts?

The Help Center pages on the app describe installing it on iOS and Android and describe no multiple-account feature. They also say the email address cannot be changed inside the app and has to be changed on the website instead.

How do I sign in to Substack with email?

Go to substack.com/sign-in or use the Sign in button at the top right, choose the emailed verification code, then paste the code or select the link in the same email. In the Substack app the link works once and expires after ten minutes.

Can I have multiple profiles on Substack?

A public profile belongs to one account. If that account has several publications, you can choose which one appears beside your name in the Primary Publication section of your profile; private publications are not offered in that menu.

Can two Substack publications be merged?

No. The Help Center says publications cannot be combined or merged. Its workaround is to export the publication you want to consolidate and import it into the one you keep, and each publication needs its own Stripe account.
