Why Does WeChat Keep Logging Me Out or Asking Me to Verify?

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Why does WeChat log me out or ask me to verify my login?

Usually because someone, possibly you, signed in to the account from a device WeChat does not already trust, or from a second phone. WeChat's Help Center (read 3 October 2026) describes several separate cases, and the right fix depends on the message you see.

The steps below are written for the phone app. WeChat for Windows or Mac and Web WeChat sign in by scanning a QR code with the phone, as the multi-login article explains.

What does each message mean, and what should you do?

How do you complete verification on a new device?

According to the Help Center's new-device guide, a first login on a new device asks for your account ID and password, or your mobile number and a verification code, and then a second verification step follows:

  1. Sign in on the new device with your account ID and password, or with your mobile number and a code.
  2. When the second step appears, choose one option: scan the QR code shown on the new device with WeChat on your previous device; get a code at your linked email address; or invite two frequent contacts to send a verification code to your account.
  3. If you chose the contacts option, refresh the page to see the result.
  4. If verification fails, use the link in the Help Center guide and send a full screenshot or screen recording of the error.

What do trusted devices change?

WeChat keeps a Trusted Devices list for each account. If you verify your mobile number or email on an infrequently used phone, the Help Center says that phone is added automatically. To rename or remove a device, go to Me > Settings > Account Security > Manage Devices; for removal tap Edit, then the minus icon. After you remove a device you must verify your identity the next time you log in from it, and the lost-phone guide uses the same list so that a login from an untrusted device triggers verification.

A second official page points the same way. WeChat's Safety Center says, in its account recovery article, that using a device the account has logged in to before makes recovery easier. When you handle several accounts, that is a good reason to give each one a steady setup: the same phone, with its linked number and email kept up to date, and a separate browser profile for each web page sign-in. Neither page promises that checks will not appear.

Restricted, frozen or blocked: three different states

StateWhat the Help Center saysHow it is resolved
RestrictedShown through on-screen instructions, or a restriction notice in the WeChat Team chatPick a verification option, such as asking friends to assist or an ID check, and complete it
FrozenA frozen account cannot be used until you unfreeze it; friends can still find you and message youMore Options > WeChat Security Center > Safety Tools > Unfreeze Account; then reset the password and enable Account Protection. The page warns that freezing and unfreezing too often may lead to a permanent freeze
Temporarily blockedLogin is restricted for a rule violation or another reasonFollow the instructions on the login page to submit an appeal
Permanently blockedAn account blocked for breaking the Terms cannot be unblocked; if it holds WeChat Pay funds, login is allowed only to withdraw themUse the Help Center form if the on-screen steps fail; see WeChat's rules on multiple accounts

What if verification keeps failing?

  • Use Unable to Log In? At the bottom of the login page, tap it and follow the on-screen steps to get help or submit an appeal. If you still cannot log in, tap More > Go to Security Center > Account Recovery > Request for WeChat account password recovery.
  • Password reset with friends. The Help Center route is Unable to Log In?, then Request Account Recovery with a contact number, then Appeal Again. That produces a 6-digit code that two emergency contacts must send you in a chat message.
  • If unblocking is refused, check the Help Center's list: a number linked to an inactive or blocked account; a virtual number; a helper who does not qualify; an account registered less than 14 days ago, which only its linked number can unblock; a new number used within 31 days of a previous unblock; the monthly limit per number; a country code that differs from the registration number; or an unofficial WeChat version or plug-in on the device.
  • After you regain access, remove unfamiliar login devices and update your linked mobile number, as the after-recovery guide says.
  • Long gaps matter. Accounts unused for a long time may be deactivated by the system, and a deletion request logs you out at once but can be cancelled by logging in within 15 days.

Where ADSSPEED fits

Some sign-out problems happen in the browser rather than in WeChat's apps. On the Official Accounts Platform, Tencent's support page says one browser cannot be logged in to several accounts at once. ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles; every profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so one sign-in does not sign another out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. It does not remove WeChat's verification steps or change its rules. Use it only for accounts you own or are authorised to manage. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with WeChat.

Frequently asked questions

Why does WeChat keep logging me out?

According to the Help Center, signing in on another phone, or on another type of tablet, logs the account out of the current phone, and a prompt may say the account is already logged in on another device. Log out of the earlier device first, restart the phone, close security apps and update WeChat. If it repeats, link a mobile number and change your passwords.

Why did WeChat suddenly log me out?

The documented causes include a login on a second phone, a restriction or freeze on the account, and a deletion request, which logs the account out automatically once it is submitted. Read the message on screen to see which case applies, then follow the matching steps above.

What does a WeChat suspicious or unusual login message mean?

The pages checked for this guide do not use that exact wording. They say WeChat requires an SMS code when someone tries to reach an account from a new device, and that a code you did not request may mean someone is trying to log in. Share the code with nobody and change your password.

Why can't I log into my WeChat account?

The Help Center lists a new-device verification step, an SMS code that does not arrive, a restriction, freeze or block, and an account removed after a long period of inactivity. Its regain-access guide starts with the linked phone number, then points to Unable to Log In? and the Security Center.

Why is WeChat friend verification not working?

The Help Center says to ask two frequent contacts to send you a verification code, then refresh. For unblocking, a helper must have used WeChat for over six months and have an active account that was not recently blocked, and a helper in mainland China must be your WeChat friend.

Can I log out of WeChat on all devices?

The pages checked for this guide do not describe a single button for logging out everywhere. They describe removing devices from Trusted Devices under Me, Settings, Account Security, Manage Devices, freezing the account if you cannot log in, and changing passwords.
