Can You Have Two WeChat Accounts? What WeChat's Rules Say
What do WeChat's rules say about having more than one account?
WeChat's Terms of Service do not state how many accounts one person may hold, but the Terms and the policies around them limit what you can do with accounts. According to the Help Center (read 3 October 2026), each phone number can sign up for only one WeChat or Weixin account, so a second account needs its own number.
The Terms of Service (page last modified 18 November 2025) say that an account you open is personal to you, and that you may not gift, lend, transfer or otherwise let anyone else access or use it. You are responsible for safeguarding your login details and for all use under the account, and WeChat treats all use of the account as yours unless a valid notice says it was compromised. The Acceptable Use Policy (last updated 1 August 2023) is more specific about accounts. In its list of misuse it names "creating multiple accounts for misuse of WeChat" next to false accounts, so the line is drawn at misuse, and neither document gives a number.
Which rulebook applies to you?
| Your account | Terms that apply | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| WeChat, registered with a mobile number outside mainland China | WeChat Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy and Community Guidelines | The Terms say they apply to users who registered with a number that uses a dialling code other than +86 |
| Weixin, registered with a mainland China number | Weixin's software licence and service agreement, its privacy guidelines and the Standards of Weixin Account Usage (effective 22 November 2024) | The agreement bars registering an unreasonable number of accounts under the same identity |
| Either one, talking to the other | Each user becomes subject to the other platform's terms | Stated in the Help Center's WeChat-versus-Weixin article |
The Help Center says the mobile number decides which one you have, and that the top of the Chat tab shows WeChat or Weixin.
What is prohibited, and where is it written?
| Behaviour | Where it is written | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Letting someone else use your account | WeChat Terms section 4; Acceptable Use Policy 7.1(e); Weixin agreement 7.1.2 | The account is personal: no gifting, lending, transferring or sharing |
| False accounts, or multiple accounts for misuse | Acceptable Use Policy 7.1(b); Community Guidelines on Platform Authenticity and Account Integrity | Inauthentic accounts are not allowed, and multiple accounts are barred when used for misuse |
| Creating an account after your use was prohibited | Acceptable Use Policy 7.1(c) | Listed as misuse |
| False identity or registration details | Acceptable Use Policy 7.1(a) and (d) | No false name, birth date or photos, and no false information when registering |
| Automation and unauthorised software | Acceptable Use Policy 7.2(b) and (q); Community Guidelines, the bots section | No bots or scrapers, and no automation or unauthorised third-party software that modifies or interferes with the app |
| Unofficial downloads, emulators, plug-ins | Help Center article on blocks; Standards of Weixin Account Usage 1.1, 1.2.6 and 1.2.8 | Use official channels; emulators, unauthorised plug-ins and software that allows multiple Weixin logins are named |
| Virtual phone numbers | Help Center article on blocks and on unblocking | Registering with one can lead to a block; the Help Center advises a number registered under your own name with a mobile operator |
| Spam | Acceptable Use Policy 6(a) | Spam content, including through false accounts, is barred |
What can happen when a rule is broken?
- Under the Acceptable Use Policy (1.2), WeChat may warn you, remove content, show recipients a precaution notice, restrict account functions or suspend or terminate the account, and notify authorities where it reasonably believes a crime was committed.
- Under the Terms (section 17), WeChat may suspend or terminate access if it reasonably believes you breached them, if your use creates risk for WeChat or other users, or if you fail to use WeChat for a prolonged period. Where reasonably practicable it says it will give advance notice.
- Under the Help Center's block article, a temporary block can be appealed, while an account permanently blocked for breaking the Terms cannot be unblocked; login is then allowed only to withdraw WeChat Pay funds.
- Under Weixin's standards, measures include warnings, function restrictions, temporary or permanent blocking and restricting features on accounts related to the owner.
- Inactive accounts may be deactivated by the system, the Help Center says, so a spare account left idle is at risk.
- On the Official Accounts Platform, registering or verifying with bought, borrowed or stolen identity details leads to a permanent block of the account providing that service and refusal of later requests from that identity (Operation Rules, 3.13.2).
How do you stay inside the rules?
- Give each account its own mobile number, registered under your own name, and keep the linked number and email up to date.
- Keep each account personal. For a team or a brand, use Official Account roles or WeCom admins instead of sharing a password; see the business article.
- Download WeChat only from official channels, such as www.wechat.com.
- Do not use bots, scrapers, automation tools, plug-ins or emulators with WeChat.
- Sign in and use each account from time to time, because long-unused accounts can be deactivated.
- If you suspect an account is compromised, notify WeChat promptly. The Terms point to Me > Settings > Help & Feedback or help.wechat.com.
What if your account is restricted or blocked?
- Read the on-screen instructions. If there are none, open the WeChat Team chat in your chat list and tap the restriction notice.
- Complete one of the verification options the app offers, such as asking friends to assist or an ID check.
- For a temporary block, follow the instructions on the login page to submit an appeal.
- If that fails, use the Help Center form with a full screenshot or recording of the error. The unblock guide lists reasons for refusals, covered in why WeChat logs you out or asks to verify.
- For a permanent block, the Help Center says the account cannot be unblocked. The Acceptable Use Policy lists creating an account after WeChat has prohibited your use as misuse, so ask the Help Center before registering again.

Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED does not change what WeChat allows, and it cannot make an account comply. It is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles; every profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so the browser pages you manage, such as the Official Accounts Platform, can stay signed in side by side. A proxy can be set per profile, and profile data stays on your own computer. Use it only for accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow WeChat's rules, including the ones above on automation and unofficial apps. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with WeChat.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have more than one WeChat account?
WeChat's Terms of Service (page last modified 18 November 2025) do not state how many accounts one person may hold. The Help Center says each phone number can sign up for only one WeChat or Weixin account, and the Acceptable Use Policy bars false accounts or multiple accounts for misuse, so a second account needs its own number and must not be used for misuse.
Can WeChat have two accounts with the same phone number?
No. The Help Center says each phone number is only allowed to sign up for one WeChat or Weixin account. A number that is not linked to any account can be used for a new registration, and the Help Center adds that two WeChat accounts cannot be merged.
Is there a WeChat account limit?
WeChat's Terms do not publish a number for ordinary users. The limits written down are one account per mobile number, the Acceptable Use Policy's ban on false accounts or multiple accounts for misuse and, for Weixin, a ban on registering an unreasonable number of accounts under the same identity.
Why was my WeChat account blocked?
The Help Center lists downloading WeChat from unofficial sources, using an Android emulator or unauthorised plug-ins, sending inappropriate content such as scams or false advertising, and registering with a virtual phone number. A temporary block can be appealed from the login page; a permanent block for breaking the Terms cannot be undone.
Can I recover a banned WeChat account?
For a temporary block, follow the instructions on the login page to submit an appeal, or complete the verification the app offers. The Help Center says an account permanently blocked for violating the Terms cannot be unblocked, although login is allowed to withdraw any WeChat Pay funds.
Why is my WeChat account suspended?
The Terms say WeChat may suspend or terminate access if it reasonably believes you breached them, if your use creates risk for WeChat or other users, if you fail to use WeChat for a prolonged period, or where law requires. The Acceptable Use Policy also lists warnings, restricted functions and suspension.
