Can You Use Two WhatsApp Accounts on the Same Computer? What Web, Desktop and Linked Devices Allow
Can you be signed in to two WhatsApp accounts on one computer?
Not side by side in one WhatsApp Web tab or one desktop app window, as far as WhatsApp documents. According to WhatsApp's Help Center (read 3 October 2026), two accounts is a phone feature, and a computer joins an account as a linked device. What works is one place per account: a separate browser profile, the desktop app plus WhatsApp Web, or a second computer. The rest of this series is listed on the WhatsApp guides page.
Three things people mean by "multiple accounts"
| What you want | What WhatsApp's pages say | Limit or catch |
|---|---|---|
| Two accounts on one phone (Android and iPhone) | A single phone can hold two different accounts, and the second is registered with its own phone number | Maximum of two. Account switching is not available on the WhatsApp Business app |
| One account on several devices | The same account can be used on several devices at once, with the primary phone linking up to four | Log in on the primary phone every 14 days to keep them connected |
| Two accounts on one computer | No side-by-side feature appears in the pages read | Switching between accounts is limited to mobile companion devices |
The switch-accounts article adds that secondary accounts can only be created from the primary mobile device, and that you can pair a companion device to a secondary account. Its own wording is short: "Only mobile companion devices can switch between accounts." So a computer can be linked to either of your accounts, but it cannot toggle between them the way a phone does.
Which WhatsApp apps run on a computer?
| Option | What WhatsApp says |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp Web | Opens at web.whatsapp.com, and you scan a QR code with your phone. Chrome, Firefox and Edge are recommended; Opera and Safari (macOS 11 or newer) are also supported. Older browsers such as Internet Explorer are not |
| WhatsApp for Windows | Supported on Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 or newer |
| WhatsApp for Mac | Supported on macOS 11 or higher |
| Link with phone number | An alternative to the QR code, currently only on WhatsApp for Windows and WhatsApp Web. You type an eight-character code on the primary phone |
Browsers, desktop apps, tablets and companion phones all count toward the same limit of four linked devices per primary phone.
Ways to run two accounts at once on one computer
- Desktop app for one account, WhatsApp Web for the other. Each is a linked device and uses one slot of its own account.
- One browser profile per account. A profile keeps its own site data, so the second account does not replace the first. The profiles guide has the steps, and what a browser profile is explains the idea.
- A second computer. Plain and unambiguous.
- The phone's own two-account feature, if you only need to read and reply on the phone.
Whichever you pick, each account is linked from the phone that holds it. If both accounts share one phone, check which one is active before you scan: the Help Center defines the active account as the one you are currently logged into.
Step by step: link a computer to an account
- Open web.whatsapp.com in the browser, or open WhatsApp for Windows or Mac.
- On the phone, Android: More (three vertical dots), then Linked devices, then Link a device. iPhone: WhatsApp Settings or your profile picture, then Linked devices, then Link device.
- If asked, verify with biometrics or your phone's unlock PIN.
- Point the phone at the QR code on the computer screen.
- If WhatsApp detects an unrecognised device, it asks you to confirm. Tap Link device only if the device is yours.
The device then shows in the phone's linked-devices list, where you can log it out later. If it signs out on its own, read the sign-out guide.
Linking with a phone number instead. On WhatsApp for Windows or WhatsApp Web only, you can choose Link with phone number (or Log in with phone number), pick your country, enter the primary account's phone number and select Next. An eight-character code appears on the computer screen. Then you enter that code on the primary phone, where WhatsApp also asks you to confirm the device name and location look right.
If linking or switching does not work
- You cannot add a second account on the phone. WhatsApp's steps: restart the phone, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, and install the latest WhatsApp.
- There is no Switch accounts option. Check that you are not in the WhatsApp Business app, where switching is not available, and that a second account is registered on that phone.
- WhatsApp Web says the browser is not supported. Use a current Chrome, Firefox or Edge.
- The page loads but stalls. WhatsApp's connection page suggests refreshing, clearing the browser cache and cookies, logging out and back in, restarting the device and trying another network. If you land on the QR code afterwards, link again.
- The link is refused. The limit is four linked devices, so log out one you no longer use.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out; for WhatsApp Web, that means one linked browser per profile. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and a proxy can be set per profile. Profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED does not replace the phone number and phone each account needs, and it does not change WhatsApp's limits. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Can you have two WhatsApp accounts on the same computer?
WhatsApp's Help Center describes two accounts on one phone and describes a computer as a linked device. It limits switching between accounts to mobile companion devices. To keep two accounts open on one computer, give each its own place, such as a separate browser profile, and link each from the phone that holds it.
Can I have 2 WhatsApp accounts on my PC?
You can link a PC to more than one account of your own, but not as a two-in-one window. One account could use WhatsApp for Windows (Windows 10 64-bit version 1903 or newer) and the other WhatsApp Web in a supported browser. Each link uses one of that account's four linked-device slots.
How to use two different WhatsApp Web accounts in the same browser?
The pages read for this guide do not describe two accounts in one WhatsApp Web session. A separate browser profile for each account keeps the two sessions apart, and each one is linked by scanning a QR code from the phone that holds that account.
Can I login 2 accounts on WhatsApp?
On a phone, yes. WhatsApp says a single mobile device can hold two different accounts, that the second must be registered with its own phone number, and that two is the maximum. The WhatsApp Business app does not offer account switching.
What is the WhatsApp linked devices limit?
WhatsApp's Help Center says one primary phone can link up to four devices at the same time, and that you need to log in on the primary phone every 14 days to keep linked devices connected. Browsers, desktop apps, tablets and companion phones all count as linked devices.
Can a mod or clone app give me more WhatsApp accounts?
No. WhatsApp's Help Center says unofficial apps violate its Terms of Service and can lead to a temporary or permanent ban or to restrictions, including on linking devices. Its announcement of the two-account feature also asks people to use only the official WhatsApp.
