Can a Studio or Team Manage DeviantArt Accounts Without Sharing a Password?

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Can a team manage a DeviantArt account without sharing the password?

Not in a way the Terms support. Section 14 makes you the guardian of your password: you agree not to disclose it to any third party, and you answer for everything done under it, whether or not you approved it. The DeviantArt pages read for this guide describe no feature for giving another person delegated access to your account; that reports what those pages contain, so check the Help Center for anything newer. Until you find one, the working rule is simple: people get their own accounts, and shared work goes through Groups.

What do the Terms say about commercial and brand use?

Section 19A defines commercial activities as offering, soliciting or selling goods or services by anyone other than DeviantArt, and section 19 bars using the Service for any commercial purpose except as the Terms expressly permit. The Terms page read shows no effective date, and section 10 lets DeviantArt amend the Terms, so check the current text before you plan around it.

WhoSection 19A position
A registered member acting as an individualCommercial activity in the arts is allowed
A small company or partnership working mainly in artAllowed where at least one of its principals is a registered member
Someone who wants to engage a registered member's services or artworkAllowed
Paid advertising on the ServiceSubject to the terms for purchasing that advertising
Anything elseNot permitted without DeviantArt's written approval

If your arrangement is not one of these, section 19A points to written approval from DeviantArt, and the contact page is the route to ask.

What can Groups do for a team?

Section 19B describes Groups as sets of user pages and applications formed to collect content and discussion and to organise members with common interests, and says registered members can take part as an administrator or a member. What else it says matters for a studio:

  • No ownership. Acting as an administrator or taking part gives you no ownership of the Group itself, of the Group tools DeviantArt supplies, or of the right to run the Group's activities.
  • Content stays with its author. Whatever someone submits to a Group remains that person's property.
  • Members run Groups. The section says registered members manage Groups, not DeviantArt, which takes no responsibility for how participants or administrators behave.
  • DeviantArt can still act. It can step in after a violation, and it can remove a Group and its privileges at any time.
  • Personal data. A Group may not gather participants' personal data without their express permission.
  • Group names. Trademark owners can object to a Group name, and a name that follows a trademarked property needs a descriptive addition.

The Help Center has articles titled What are Groups?, How do I manage group privileges and permissions?, What do the various group member privilege settings mean? and What should I do if a group founder is inactive?. Read them for the current steps; the last title shows that a founder role exists, so decide who holds it before a project starts.

Who does what?

You need toA route the pages read supportWhat not to do
Let a colleague post under a shared studio nameA Group in which the colleague takes part as a member or administrator, under the Group's rules and the Terms (section 19B)Hand over the account password (section 14)
Run commercial work for a clientFollow section 19A: a registered member acting as an individual, a small art-focused company with a member as principal, or a client retaining a member's servicesAssume any company may trade without a registered member involved
Keep access if the owner is awayKeep the account's email, authenticator and recovery codes with a named owner, plus a written backup planPass a code around in a chat; the team posts say never to share one
Hand an account to a client for goodAsk DeviantArt first; section 11 bars assigning rights or delegating obligations without prior written consentUse the password as a substitute for that conversation

How do you keep shared work secure?

  • Turn on two-factor authentication. The July 2026 team post says it is open to every account, including those created through Google, Apple or Facebook, and that it is switched on in the Security and Privacy section of Account Settings.
  • Hold the recovery codes centrally. The same post calls them the last line of defence if the authenticator is lost, so keep them with the account's owner rather than in a shared chat.
  • Control the mailbox. Section 13 calls your email address DeviantArt's main route for contacting you about the account, and the March 2026 post says security codes are sent to that email when you change it or turn off password-reset emails.
  • Train for scams. DeviantArt says it will never ask for your password or verification code, and its July 2025 post says to check the correct user symbol when someone claims to be staff.
  • Think before deleting. The Privacy Policy says permanent deletion erases your information and cannot be undone; deactivation is a separate Help Center topic.

What does a hand-over or off-boarding checklist look like?

  1. Remove the person's roles in each Group, using the privilege settings the Help Center articles describe.
  2. Change the password if they ever knew one for a shared studio account; section 14 makes you responsible for activity under it.
  3. Review two-factor authentication in the Security and Privacy section of Account Settings and confirm only the owner holds the authenticator and recovery codes.
  4. Review active sessions, following the Help Center article How do I view and clear my active sessions?.
  5. Check the account email and who can read that mailbox.
  6. Record what changed and when, and who now holds each credential.

What if the owner has left or a group founder is inactive?

  • The Help Center has an article titled What should I do if a group founder is inactive?; start there rather than asking anyone for a password.
  • If you have lost access to an account, use What should I do if I've lost access to my account? and the Login Issues and Account Recovery category on the contact page, which notes that logged-out users cannot submit tickets.
  • For a permanent transfer to another person or company, ask DeviantArt before you act, because section 11 requires prior written consent to assign rights or delegate obligations under the Terms.
  • Read why DeviantArt signs you out or asks for a code before anyone types a code on behalf of someone else, and see how separate browser profiles keep each person's sign-in apart.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. When each person manages their own DeviantArt accounts, or accounts they are authorised to manage, every profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so sign-ins stay side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, a proxy can be set per profile and assigned to many profiles in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED does not give anyone access to an account; that still follows DeviantArt's own rules on passwords and Groups. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with DeviantArt.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make someone a DeviantArt group admin?

Terms section 19B says registered members can take part in a Group as an administrator or a member, under the Group's own rules and the Terms. The steps for setting privileges are in Help Center articles titled How do I manage group privileges and permissions? and What do the various group member privilege settings mean? This guide does not reproduce them.

Can two people share one DeviantArt account?

The Terms bar disclosing your password to any third party and make you solely responsible for activity under it, and the pages read describe no delegated-access feature. A Group is the team mechanism the Terms describe, so give each person their own account and add them to the Group.

What should I do if a DeviantArt account is compromised?

DeviantArt's March 2026 team post says most compromises happen when scammers trick users into sharing a password or changing the password or email to one the attacker supplies. The Help Center has an article titled What should I do if I've lost access to my account? DeviantArt says it will never ask for your password or verification code.

Can you reactivate a deactivated DeviantArt account?

The Help Center has an article titled How do I deactivate or reactivate my DeviantArt account?, and the Privacy Policy mentions retaining information after you deactivate, so deactivation exists as an option separate from deletion. Permanent deletion is different: the Privacy Policy says it erases your information and the account cannot be restored.

Can a business or studio sell on DeviantArt?

Section 19A of the Terms allows commercial activity in the arts by registered members acting as individuals, by small companies or partnerships that work mainly in art where a principal is a registered member, and by people who engage a member's services or artwork. Anything else needs DeviantArt's written approval.

Who owns a DeviantArt group?

Section 19B says that acting as an administrator or taking part does not give you ownership of the Group, its tools or the right to run its activities, and that what people submit stays theirs. Registered members manage Groups, and DeviantArt can remove a Group and its privileges at any time.
