How to Use Separate Browser Profiles for Two Imgur Accounts on One PC
Can separate browser profiles keep two Imgur accounts apart on one PC?
Yes, as far as the sign-ins go. Open Imgur in one profile per account and each profile holds its own cookies. Chrome Help says a profile keeps bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings separate, Chromium's documentation places cookies in the same per-profile folder, and Edge says each profile has its own browsing history and bookmarks. Firefox containers give a similar split inside one window.
That fits what Imgur publishes. According to Imgur's Terms of Service, Community Rules and Privacy Policy (read 3 October 2026), no account switcher is described, and blocked cookies mean typing your username at every login. A profile will not change your computer, your connection or Imgur's Rules. If the idea is new, start with what a browser profile is.
What changes between profiles, and what does not?
| What | Chrome or Edge profile | Firefox container |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in cookies | Kept apart per profile | Kept apart per container |
| Browsing history and bookmarks | Kept apart per profile | Shared between containers |
| Two Imgur accounts at once | Yes, in two profiles | Yes, in two container tabs |
| Your computer and network | Identical for every profile | Identical for every container |
| Imgur's Rules | Cover every account | Cover every account |
Private windows and VPNs are a different subject, and the comparison guide deals with them.
How do you create one profile per Imgur account?
- Add the profile. In Chrome, select Profile at the top right, choose Add Chrome profile, then pick a name, photo and colour. In Edge, select the profile icon at the upper right, open Manage profile settings, choose Add profile, and decide between syncing your data and starting fresh.
- Think about syncing. Chrome Help says a Google Account signed in to a profile lets bookmarks, passwords and settings follow that account to other devices. If you work for clients, decide whose Google Account belongs there.
- Label it using the pattern further down, so nobody opens the wrong profile.
- Sign in once. Open imgur.com in that profile and sign in with that profile's account only.
- Verify before posting. Check which account the window uses. According to the Privacy Policy, a username is public by nature.
- Repeat for each account, every one in its own profile and never two in the same profile.
In Firefox, install Mozilla's Multi-Account Containers extension, make one container per account and open imgur.com in the matching container.
What matters for Imgur in particular?
- Cookies must stay on. The Privacy Policy says that if cookies are blocked you must type your username again at every login, so do not block cookies for imgur.com in these profiles.
- Usernames are public. The Privacy Policy says a username is public by nature, so name each profile after the account it holds.
- Only the website on a computer. Imgur's apps page lists an iPhone app and an Android app and describes no desktop app, so each profile uses imgur.com.
- Anonymous uploads exist. The Terms let you upload anonymously and choose who you share the images with. If you only want to share one picture, check that route before opening another account.
- Automation is restricted. The Terms bar robots, scraping and data mining, and the Rules name scripts or bots that behave harmfully or without being open about it. Do not connect profiles to tools that post, vote or scrape for you.
Labelling, handing over and backing up
Labels. Start with the project or brand, then the Imgur username, then whoever looks after it, for example Studio / imgur-username / Linh, and give each client or project its own colour.
Handing over. The pages read describe no team roles or delegated access, so giving a colleague an Imgur account means giving them the sign-in itself, and the Privacy Policy leaves the duty of keeping unauthorised people out with you. Do this only for someone authorised to manage the account, and sign out in the profile before it leaves your control. When an account is no longer needed, the Privacy Policy says people with a username can log in and delete it. It gives no steps and adds that backup or archive copies of earlier information may be kept for legal reasons. After that, remove the browser profile too (in Chrome: Profile, Manage Chrome profiles, More, Delete). Chrome Help says this erases the profile's bookmarks, history, passwords and other settings from the computer.
Backing up. Two things are worth saving, and they are not the same:
- The account's content. The pages read describe no export tool, so keep your own originals of what you upload.
- The profile folder. Chromium's documentation says every profile is a subfolder of the user data directory, which holds history, bookmarks and cookies. Chrome's default location is
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Dataon Windows and~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chromeon macOS. A copy contains live sign-in cookies, so guard it as you would a password.
When one profile per account gets hard to manage
| Sign of strain | The problem | A way out |
|---|---|---|
| A long list of accounts | Profile names and colours no longer prevent a wrong click | A tool that opens, stops and organises profiles in bulk |
| A shared PC | Each profile folder holds sign-in cookies that others could open | A separate operating-system user for each person |
| A task that needs a phone app | Imgur's apps page lists only iPhone and Android apps, and a browser profile cannot run an app | An Android phone profile |
Whatever you choose, Imgur's Rules stay exactly the same.
Fixing a profile that signs you out or mixes accounts up
- Imgur asks for your username every time. Cookies are not being kept. Allow cookies for imgur.com and check what clears them.
- You are signed out whenever the browser closes. Check whether the browser is set to clear cookies on exit.
- The wrong account sits in the wrong profile. Sign out, sign in with the right account and rename the profile.
- A warning or suspension hit one account. Read the rules guide and appeal. Do not open another account to carry on.
- You cannot sign in. The pages read do not cover sign-in errors, so use Imgur's help site. The login-problem guide and the multi-login guide cover what the pages do say.
Where ADSSPEED fits
If a folder of plain profiles starts to feel unmanageable, ADSSPEED is a Windows and macOS desktop app that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps separate cookies, local data and browser settings. You can set a proxy per profile and assign one to many profiles in bulk, open, stop and organise profiles in bulk, and keep all profile data on your own computer. Android phone profiles, each with its own device configuration, run mobile apps on a PC. Installing ADSSPEED on Windows covers setup. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Imgur.
Frequently asked questions
What is the simplest way to run two Imgur accounts on one computer?
Imgur's Terms, Rules and Privacy Policy describe no account switcher. Create one Chrome or Edge profile for each account and sign in to one account per profile, or use one Firefox container per account. Each keeps its own cookies, so the sign-ins do not replace each other.
Does a Chrome profile per account stop Imgur sign-ins from mixing?
For the sign-in itself, yes: Chromium's documentation says each profile is its own subfolder holding history, bookmarks and cookies, so a login in one profile does not appear in another. Profiles do not change the computer or the internet connection, which stay the same for every profile.
Are Firefox containers an alternative for two Imgur accounts?
Mozilla describes containers as separating cookies, localStorage, IndexedDB and caches, and says you can log in to several accounts on the same site; history and bookmarks are not separated. Imgur's pages do not mention containers, so check that your sign-in behaves as you expect.
How do I delete an Imgur account I no longer need?
The Privacy Policy says people with a username can log in and delete their account. It gives no steps, so follow Imgur's help site, and note that it also says backup or archive copies of earlier information may be kept for legal reasons. Then delete the browser profile you used for that account.
Is a copy of my browser profile a backup of my Imgur account?
No. A profile folder holds browser data such as history, bookmarks and cookies, not your Imgur account. A copy also contains sign-in cookies, so guard it like a password. Keep your own originals of anything you upload, because the pages read describe no export tool.
Will using a profile per account change how Imgur treats my accounts?
No. A profile only separates data on your computer, such as cookies and settings. Imgur's Rules on vote manipulation, bots and evading punishment apply to every account however it is opened, and nothing about a profile promises how an account will be treated.
