Why Does Quora Log Me Out or Block My Login? Password Reset, Recovery and Appeals

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

Why does Quora log you out or stop you signing in?

Quora's Help Center does not explain automatic sign-outs. Its Account Settings and Safety & Security sections (read 3 October 2026) hold no article on new-device alerts, unusual-login screens or two-step verification, so this guide describes none. What the Help Center does document is how to log out, reset a password, recover when the account's email is gone, spot phishing and appeal a moderation decision.

When several accounts share one computer, a sign-in can also disappear for reasons that sit in the browser rather than at Quora:

  • someone used Logout in another window of the same browser profile;
  • the profile's cookies and site data were cleared, by you, by the browser or by a cleaning tool;
  • you opened a different browser profile from the one you meant, so the account you expect is not signed in there.

Check those first. They take a minute and need no support ticket.

How do you reset a password you have forgotten?

  1. On the login screen, enter the account's email address and click Forgot Password? The Help Center says Quora then emails you a link to reset it.
  2. If nothing arrives, look in your spam folder. The article says a mailbox or an email filter may block the message, and it suggests allowing noreply@quoramail.com.
  3. If you are still signed in, open quora.com/settings, choose Change Password, enter the current password and then the new one.
  4. If you remain stuck, go to the Help Center, choose Contact Us and pick I need help with my account.

What if you can no longer reach the account's email?

The Help Center (article edited December 2022) says that, because of security concerns, Quora sends password-reset emails only to the address tied to the account, and it suggests asking your email provider about recovering the mailbox. It then lists the other routes:

SituationWhat the article says
You are still signed in on a browser or in the app and know the passwordIn settings, choose Add another email address, enter the new address and the current password, confirm through the emailed link, then choose Set as Primary
You once signed in with Google or FacebookSign in that way, then add a new email address in account settings
Neither appliesUse the contact form and pick I need help with my account

Treat the account email like a key. Use a mailbox that you, or the organisation that owns the account, will still control next year.

Is it a restriction rather than a sign-in problem?

Quora's article on bans (edited May 2025) lists behaviours that can lead to one: coordinated inauthentic activity such as vote manipulation, harassment, repeated violations after a warning or an edit-block, deceptive or malicious links, and using multiple accounts to get around moderation. It adds that a person who breaks a policy several times will usually receive content warnings, a temporary edit-block or both before a ban, while severe violations of the Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policy can lead to an immediate ban.

The documented ways back are appeals:

  1. A content notice: click Appeal on the notification from Quora Moderation, or on the Appeal link below a collapsed answer.
  2. Other moderation decisions: use Contact Us in the Help Center and choose I want to appeal a moderation decision. In the mobile app, the route starts at your profile icon, then More, then Help.
  3. A ban you think was a mistake: fill in the contact form that the ban article links to.
  4. A flagged profile name: Platform Policies say to use quora.com/contact, choose the appeal option and give Flagged Name as the reason.

Do not open a replacement account while you wait. Platform Policies say that using multiple accounts to get around enforcement is not permitted.

Which message or screen is which?

What you seeWhat Quora's pages sayWhat to do
A message claims your account is compromised and asks for detailsQuora says it will never email, text or call asking for personal informationDo not reply. Change the password, use a different one on every site, and check that the account email is still yours
The reset email never arrivesIt may be blocked or filtered by the mailbox; check spamAllow noreply@quoramail.com and try again
A notice says content was collapsed or deletedYou can appeal from the noticeClick Appeal
An age check before turning on adult content (UK users)The Age Assurance FAQs say UK users must complete age assurance, which Quora runs with a partner called k-IDFollow the flow; it has nothing to do with sign-in
A blue check mark on a profileVerified profiles are well-known or high-visibility writers, public figures or organisationsIt is a profile badge, not a sign-in step

How do you stop accounts on one computer from tripping each other up?

  1. Give each account its own browser profile. A Logout or a cleared cookie store in one profile then leaves the others as they were. Chromium's documentation says cookies are part of the profile data kept in each profile's own folder. See what a browser profile is.
  2. Read the profile name before you act. The account you expect may simply be signed in inside a different profile.
  3. Sign out from inside the profile that holds the session, using the profile menu at the top right and the Logout link at the bottom of the dropdown.
  4. Keep a recovery record for each account: the email on file, who owns it and who may approve a reset.
  5. Report problems with the site itself through Contact Us, choosing Report a Bug, when sign-in works but pages fail.

Quora's Help Center does not describe what it looks at when you sign in, so no guide can promise that a sign-in will be accepted. The steps above only remove the avoidable mix-ups. The profile guide shows the setup.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED does not change what Quora checks or allows. It is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you own or are authorised to manage can stay signed in side by side without signing each other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. The first-run guide shows the install. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Quora.

Frequently asked questions

How do I log out of Quora?

On the desktop site, the Help Center says to open the Profile menu at the top right and click the Logout link at the bottom of the dropdown. On the mobile apps and mobile web, go to the You tab, tap the three dots and choose Logout.

Why can I not log in to Quora?

The Help Center lists no complete set of causes. Its documented steps are the Forgot Password link on the login screen, a reset email sent only to the address tied to the account, and the contact form option called I need help with my account if you are still stuck.

How do I get back into a Quora account I created with Google or Facebook?

The Help Center says that if you previously signed in with a Google or Facebook account you should be able to sign in that way, and then add a new email address in account settings. Password-reset emails go only to the email address tied to the account.

My Quora account was banned. How do I recover it?

The Help Center says that if you believe a ban was a mistake you may appeal through the contact form it links to. Platform Policies add that using another account to get around enforcement is not permitted, so do not open a replacement account while you wait.

Why is Quora not working for me?

The Help Center has no page listing outage causes. Check the profile you are in, try the same account in a second browser profile to see whether stored data in one profile is the cause, and use the Report a Bug option under Contact Us when the site itself fails.

What should I do about a message saying my Quora account is compromised?

Quora's Help Center says it will never email, text or call asking you to provide personal information. It advises changing your password at once, using a different password on every site and checking that your account details, such as the email address, have not been altered.
