How to Manage Snapchat for a Brand or Team: Business Manager and Public Profile Roles

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

How do you manage Snapchat for a brand without sharing one login?

With roles. Snapchat has two layers for businesses: a Public Profile, where the owner assigns roles to other Snapchatters, and Snap Business Manager, where an organization holds members and ad accounts. In both, each person uses their own Snapchat login, so nobody needs the brand's password. The Help Center says never to share your password with anyone, and Snap's Terms bar soliciting other users' login credentials or buying, selling, renting or leasing access to an account.

Help Center pages were read on 3 October 2026 and show no update date. The rules behind this are in the Snapchat rules guide, and the agency ownership model is in how agencies manage client ad accounts.

Public Profile roles

The Help Center says these roles exist if you have a Snap Star Public Profile or a Public Profile for Businesses.

RoleWhat the Help Center says it can do
Profile AdminRuns the Public Profile: insights, role assignment, and any Snap in Saved Stories, Spotlight or the public Story
Profile CollaboratorInsights, plus adding or removing Snaps in the public Story or Spotlight
Story ContributorPosts Snaps to the public Story and Spotlight, removes only their own, and sees insights for their own Snaps only
Insights ViewerRead-only access to Insights

Give someone a role, step by step

  1. In the app, open My Account and tap the gear icon to open Settings.
  2. Tap Manage Roles, then Assign New Role.
  3. Enter the Snapchatter's username and choose the role.
  4. If you are not friends with that person, they must accept the role request in their Settings.

The same Manage Roles screen is where you change a role. The owner and admins can remove roles at any time, a person can remove themselves, and Snapchat says you can assign roles to as many Snapchatters as you like.

Several profiles, and switching to a business type

The Help Center says you can manage more than one Public Profile through the Profile Switcher in the app, but eligibility can vary. Followers cannot be transferred or merged, since each profile builds its own audience. Snapchat for Business describes it differently: its Public Profiles page, which shows no update date, says one email and username can have only one Public Profile and that each further profile needs an additional Snapchat account, while an organization can create more than one profile managed from one Ads Manager account. Check what your own app offers, and remember that every account you create must follow the Terms.

A Professional Account is a version of your Public Profile, limited to people aged 18 and older, with Creator or Business types. You need a Public Profile first; then open it, tap Edit Profile, tap Account Type and switch to a Professional Account.

Business Manager: organizations, members and ad accounts

According to Snap's developer documentation, an Organization represents a brand, a partner or an ad agency, and the only way to set one up is to sign up for a Business account with Snap Business Manager. Snap's Ads Manager introduction (published 19 October 2021) says Business Details covers company settings, payment methods and ad accounts, and that under Members you can invite people, update roles and manage individuals depending on your role. Invited members receive an email; until they accept, their status is INVITED.

Organization role (developer documentation name)What it covers
adminEverything in the Organization and all ad accounts, including adding members and assigning roles
business_adminBusiness Manager capabilities such as payment methods, roles and organization details; can create, update and delete ad accounts but not manage entities inside them
data_adminReporting access only, to all ad accounts in the Organization
agency_adminSimilar to admin but cannot change business details and can only add or manage agency members
memberRequired for everyone who is not an admin, and a prerequisite for ad account roles

Ad account roles are admin (everything in that ad account), creative (creative and media, read access elsewhere), general (campaigns, ad squads and ads), reports (read-only reporting), audience (audiences) and agency_member (ad account details, payment methods and advertiser collateral, but not assets or members).

Who is responsible, and keeping logins safe

  • Responsibility. Snap's Business Services Terms (effective 30 September 2024) say you are responsible for setting and revoking access levels, for keeping up-to-date email addresses for each member, and for all activity in your accounts. If you act for another party, you must be authorised to do so.
  • Own login, own contact details. Snapchat advises adding a passkey, a current phone number and an email address to each account and verifying both, and never adding someone else's email.
  • Extra protection. Set up two-factor authentication with SMS or an authenticator app.

Off-boarding checklist

  1. Remove the person's role under Manage Roles and their membership in Business Manager.
  2. If anyone ever used a shared login, change the password, review Session Management and, with 2FA on, use Forget Devices for devices that should no longer be linked.
  3. Replace contact details that belonged to the leaver with ones your business controls.
  4. Keep a written record of who authorised whom.

When something does not work

  • profile.snapchat.com will not let someone in. Snapchat says it may be because the account has never signed in to Snapchat on an Android or iOS device. Sign in on a phone once, then retry.
  • A role request does not appear. If you are not friends, the person must accept it in their Settings.
  • A member cannot reach an ad account. The developer documentation says an ad account role requires the organization role member first.
  • An account is locked or asks for codes. See why Snapchat logs you out or asks for a code.

Where ADSSPEED fits

Roles come first: they decide who may do what on Snapchat's side. ADSSPEED is a desktop app for Windows and macOS that manages many browser profiles, and it helps people who hold several accounts they own or are authorised to manage. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so those accounts can stay signed in side by side. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, and profile data stays on your own computer. Follow Snapchat's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Snapchat.

Frequently asked questions

What is Snapchat Business Manager?

Snap's developer documentation says an Organization represents a brand, a partner or an ad agency and that the only way to set one up is to sign up for a Business account with Snap Business Manager. Snap's Ads Manager introduction describes business details, ad accounts and a Members area for inviting people and updating roles.

How do I give someone access to my Snapchat Public Profile?

In the app open Settings from My Account, tap Manage Roles, tap Assign New Role, then enter the Snapchatter's username and choose a role. If you are not friends with that person, they must accept the role request in their Settings. The Help Center says roles apply to Snap Star and business Public Profiles.

How do I switch a Snapchat account to a business account?

The Help Center describes a Professional Account as a version of your Public Profile, limited to Snapchatters aged 18 and older, with Creator or Business types. You need a Public Profile first, then open it, tap Edit Profile, tap Account Type and switch to a Professional Account.

Can a team manage a Snapchat business profile without sharing a password?

Yes. The Help Center says a Snap Star or business Public Profile can assign roles to as many Snapchatters as you like, and roles can be removed by you and your admins at any time. Snapchat also says never to share your password with anyone.

How do I log in to Snapchat Business Manager?

This guide draws its Business Manager details from Snap's developer documentation, so it does not confirm the on-screen login steps. That documentation says invited members receive an email invitation, and the Help Center says profile.snapchat.com logins can fail if you have never signed in to Snapchat on a phone.
