Can You Use Two Threads Accounts on One Computer at the Same Time?

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 5 min read

Can Threads keep more than one account logged in on the same computer?

Not side by side in one browser. Threads' Help Center (read 3 October 2026) says you can add several Threads profiles and switch between them, and for a computer it gives one method: log out, then log in as the other profile. That article is written for Threads.com in a browser, and the pages read for this guide describe no separate Threads program for Windows or Mac.

How switching works on each device

On Threads.com from a computer

  1. Log in to the first profile and click Menu on the left.
  2. Click Log out.
  3. Enter the username and password of the profile you want to use next.

In the Threads app on Android or iPhone

  1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then tap Menu in the top right.
  2. Tap Switch profiles at the bottom, then tap Add profile.
  3. Choose to log in with another Instagram account.
  4. To switch later, tap and hold your profile picture and tap the profile you want. If it is missing from the list, tap Switch profiles.

The official Threads account announced profile switching on mobile on 21 September 2023. The Help Center article states no limit on how many profiles you can add, so open it if a number matters to you.

One Threads profile for each Instagram or Facebook account

The Help Center says you create a Threads profile by signing in with an Instagram or Facebook account, that the profile is connected to the account you logged in with, and that you can create one profile for each Instagram and Facebook account you have. A second Threads profile therefore needs a second Instagram or Facebook account behind it.

Two more points matter once accounts pile up on one computer:

  • Shared login info. The Help Center gives this example: if your Instagram account and Threads account are in the same Accounts Center, you can use your Instagram login info to access Threads. It also says you can create a new password just for Threads.
  • Separating them again. You can remove a Threads account from the same Accounts Center as your other accounts at any time, for instance if you do not want your accounts to be able to log in to each other. The Help Center adds that Threads in Accounts Center is not available everywhere.

What the pages say, and what they do not

QuestionIn the pages read for this guide
Can one browser stay signed in to two Threads profiles at once? The computer steps log out first, so one sign-in is active per browser at a time
Is there a limit on added profiles? The switching article states none
Can one Instagram or Facebook account make two Threads profiles? No: the Help Center says one profile for each account
Is there a separate Windows or Mac program?None is described; the computer steps are for Threads.com
Can a password be changed or recovered from a computer? The Help Center says those Threads pages are not available on computers, only in the app or a mobile browser

What one browser keeps shared

Chromium's documentation says the user data directory holds profile data such as history, bookmarks and cookies, and that each profile is a subdirectory of it. So every tab and window of one browser profile shares the same Threads sign-in, which fits the log-out in the Help Center's computer steps. Two Threads accounts open at the same moment need two separate cookie stores.

ApproachWhat stays separateGood forThe catch
Log out, log in again, same browser profileNothing: one set of cookies and saved passwordsTwo of your own profiles used in turnEasy to post from the wrong one; risky on shared computers
A Chrome profile per accountEach profile's bookmarks, history, passwords and cookiesAccounts that must stay signed in togetherMore windows; one computer and one connection behind them
Firefox containersCookies, local storage, IndexedDB and caches per container, inside one windowSeveral logins to one site in a single windowHistory and bookmarks are still shared
The Threads phone appIts own Switch profiles listA second profile used on mobilePhone only, outside the computer steps

The browser profiles guide walks through the second row, and what a browser profile is explains the term if it is new. How private windows and VPNs differ from profiles is covered in the comparison guide.

When switching goes wrong

  1. You were signed out as soon as you switched. That is how the computer steps work: Menu, Log out, log in again. Log in as the profile you want, or give each account its own browser profile. A password change on an account also logs out every device that is logged in to it, according to the Help Center.
  2. You cannot find Add profile in the browser. The Help Center describes Switch profiles and Add profile for the Android and iPhone apps. Its computer steps do not mention them.
  3. A second profile will not create. The rule is one Threads profile for each Instagram or Facebook account, so you need another account behind it.
  4. A code or confirmation screen appears. Follow it. The sign-in guide lists the causes that Meta's pages name.
  5. Several people share one login. Do not. The business guide covers access without passing a password around.

Where ADSSPEED fits

The Help Center's computer steps mean one Threads sign-in per browser profile. ADSSPEED, an app for Windows and macOS, is built around that idea: it manages many browser profiles, and each one keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings. Accounts you manage can therefore stay signed in next to each other without one signing the other out. Profiles can be opened, stopped and organised in bulk, a proxy can be set on each, and the data stays on your own computer. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Threads.

Frequently asked questions

Can you have multiple Threads accounts?

Yes. The Help Center says you can create multiple profiles for Threads and switch between them, but only one profile for each Instagram or Facebook account. Every profile needs its own account behind it, and you should use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage.

How do I switch accounts on Threads on a desktop?

According to the Help Center (read 3 October 2026), on Threads.com from a computer you click Menu on the left, click Log out, then enter the username and password of the profile you want. The Android and iPhone apps have a separate Switch profiles list, and the computer steps do not mention it.

Can you create a second Threads account?

Yes, if you have a second Instagram or Facebook account to create it from. The Help Center says you can create one profile on Threads for each Instagram and Facebook account you have, so a single account cannot produce two Threads profiles.

Can I log into Threads without Instagram?

The Help Center says that to create a Threads profile you sign in with an Instagram or Facebook account. It also says you can create a new password just for Threads, but the profile stays connected to the account you logged in with.

Is there a Threads desktop app?

The pages read for this guide describe Threads on a computer as the website Threads.com and mention no separate program for Windows or Mac. Use a browser, and give each account you want signed in at once its own browser profile.

How do I add another account in the Threads app?

On Android and iPhone, the Help Center says to open your profile, tap Menu, tap Switch profiles, tap Add profile and log in with another Instagram account. To switch afterwards, tap and hold your profile picture and choose the profile.
