Weibo Multiple Account Rules: Phone Limits, Automation and What Gets Restricted

By ADSSPEED Team · Published · Updated · 6 min read

How many Weibo accounts can one person have?

The pages read give no per-person maximum. The Terms of Service (no effective date shown on the page) have no clause, in the sections on service content, service changes, usage rules or breach, that caps how many accounts one person may hold, and the user-rights chapter of the Community Convention (articles 5 to 9, in force since 27 May 2021) has none either. What Weibo does publish are narrower limits, collected below. This article rests on those two documents and on Help Center pages, all read on 3 October 2026 and written in Chinese. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Weibo's rules.

LimitWhat Weibo saysWhere

Login phoneA number can be the login phone of only one accountSame page
Personal certificationOne ID document can certify only one Weibo account at a timeHelp Center, updated 29 January 2026
Phone changesError -30 says the month's changes are used up, so try again after 31 daysHelp Center, updated 11 October 2024

On identity, Convention article 6 describes a backstage real-name, frontstage voluntary principle, with verification based on a mobile phone number, and Terms clause 4.1 requires real identity details at registration.

What the Terms and the Convention prohibit

BehaviourWhere it is writtenWhat Weibo says
Selling, renting or transferring an account or nicknameTerms 1.2.2; Convention art. 5Not without Weibo's consent; the right to use an account may not be lent or transferred
Handing over account and passwordTerms 4.6Users should not transfer or lend them; the user bears responsibility if they are misused through negligence
False or borrowed identityTerms 4.1Use real identity details; do not register in another person's or organisation's name, or use details that suggest a link with them
Automated behaviourTerms 4.5.1; Convention art. 54Automated means, or frequency far above normal users, for posting, commenting, messaging, following, liking or scraping, without Weibo's consent
SpamTerms 4.5.2; Convention art. 54Marketing or meaningless content, or follower trading, including from accounts batch-registered by improper means
Inflating countsConvention art. 55Without Weibo's permission, group-control devices or other unlawful means to raise interaction or follower numbers, including buying them

Clause 4.5.2 adds that Weibo may judge by technical rules whether behaviour is automated or spam, and that its backend records are the basis for any measure. Convention article 56 says Weibo uses technical means to identify such behaviour. A browser profile or any other tool does not change what these clauses allow.

What Weibo can do when a rule is broken

  • Terms clauses 8.3 and 3.3: Weibo may take whatever measures it judges necessary at once and without notice, telling the user afterwards where it can. Clause 3.3 lets it interrupt or end the service in listed cases, among them untrue personal data and breaking the usage rules.
  • Terms clause 8.5: change, delete or hide content; warn an account or mute it; change, limit or ban some or all functions; suspend, limit or end service and close the account; report to authorities.
  • Convention article 15: account measures include banning posting and commenting, banning new followers, banning profile edits, and restricting access up to closing the account.
  • Credit history score: a Help Center page updated 18 December 2024 says every user starts at 120 points, 60 is the low-credit line, spam deducts 2 to 10 points, features are limited as the score falls, and at zero the account is muted.
  • Freezes: a page updated 1 August 2025 says frequent actions such as mass messages or ad posts are judged malicious and the account is frozen temporarily, until the owner verifies by SMS or face scan.

Inactive accounts: the 90-day clause

Terms clause 3.4 says that if an account is not actually used for any 90 consecutive days, Weibo may, within what the law allows, reclaim the nickname, reclaim the account or stop providing the service. A Help Center page updated 20 March 2026 describes the sign-in message "account unused for a long time, in protection state", says Weibo applied it under the Terms, and offers two ways back: Find account (找回账号) or Activate account (激活账号) with an SMS code or face scan. Brand accounts have their own route, covered in the business article.

Personal and business use

Weibo distinguishes ordinary accounts from certified ones. Convention article 40 says ad-style marketing posted without using Weibo's commercial product channels, without the required registration, and without being recognisable as advertising, can be blocked or have its display restricted. Terms clause 4.2 adds that news-media and government institutional accounts must also follow the relevant laws, organisational rules and supervisory requirements. For a brand, a certified enterprise account and Weibo's helper roles are the documented route, not a shared personal login.

Staying inside the rules: a checklist

  1. Give each account its own login phone and keep a record of who holds it.
  2. Register and run accounts with real details, never in someone else's name.
  3. Do not lend an account or its password. Use the helper roles in the business article.
  4. Use no automation, group-control tools or purchased followers and interactions.
  5. Route commercial posts through Weibo's commercial channels.
  6. Use each account at least occasionally, or close it deliberately.
  7. Read Weibo's notices: penalty details are usually sent by private message from @微博管理员.

If an account is restricted: how to appeal

For a ban notice, a Help Center page updated 11 October 2024 describes four steps: tap Verify now (立即验证), read the stated reason, penalty time and note, press Appeal (申诉) if you are sure there was no violation and add contact details, then wait for the result by email or SMS. An appeal record page shows progress. Freezes and verification failures are covered in the sign-in checks article.

Where ADSSPEED fits

ADSSPEED is a Windows and macOS desktop app for managing many browser profiles. Each profile keeps its own cookies, local data and browser settings, so accounts you manage can stay signed in side by side, and the data stays on your own computer. It organises where accounts live; it does not change what Weibo's Terms allow, and each account's phone, identity details and conduct remain yours to manage.

Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Weibo's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Weibo.
