Weibo Keeps Asking Me to Verify or Logs Me Out: Causes and Official Fixes
Why does Weibo keep asking me to verify, or sign me out?
Because its Help Center treats a password sign-in on a computer as something to check. A page updated 26 June 2026 says that when you sign in with a password, Weibo needs an SMS or private message check, and it lists three routes on a computer: an SMS code, a private message code when no SMS arrives, or a scan from a Weibo account that is already signed in. Other pages describe forced logouts, temporary restrictions tied to frequent sign-ins, and accounts flagged as abnormal.
This article covers causes and Weibo's own recovery steps only. It rests on Help Center pages read on 3 October 2026, written in Chinese, so menu names are translated once. Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Weibo's rules.
Message by message: what Weibo says and what to do
| What you see | What Weibo says it means | Official next step |
|---|---|---|
| A check after a password sign-in on a computer (二次验证) | A standard step for password sign-ins (26 June 2026) | Choose an SMS code, a private message code or a scan from a signed-in Weibo account |
| Login protection verification (登录保护验证) | Dual login verification is on, so a device that is not trusted needs an SMS code or a scan (20 March 2026) | If the phone gets no codes: scan from another signed-in device, use Find account (找回账号), sign in on a device used before, reset the password, or send the feedback form |
| Logged out while using Weibo (被迫退出) | The account may have hit an unsafe situation (8 June 2026) | Sign in again, change the password, keep the bound phone in use, share no codes |
| Error 4076 | The system flagged the IP as a risk and disabled it for two hours (26 June 2026) | Wait and avoid frequent sign-ins; send feedback if it lasts longer |
| Error -4078 or -4080 | Frequent QR scanning; the network's IP range is limited for 30 minutes (26 June 2026) | Wait 30 minutes, it lifts by itself |
| Too-frequent prompt (登录频繁) | Many sign-ins in a short time, or several accounts from one IP address, can look malicious; other users on the same IP range can also cause it (26 June 2026) | Stop, wait and try later |
| Idle account in protection (保护状态) | The system placed a long-unused account in protection (20 March 2026) | Use Find account, or Activate account (激活账号) with an SMS code or a face scan |
| Account abnormal, cannot post (账号存在异常) | The system saw a theft or high-risk signal (30 May 2025) | Tap Remove abnormality (解除异常) and follow the prompts |
When the code never arrives
Weibo has one page for SMS codes (updated 11 March 2026) and one for private message codes (25 June 2026).
- SMS: security software may have filtered the text; the carrier may be delayed; the number may be suspended, overdue or have a full inbox; the number may differ from the one registered or bound; on dual-SIM phones try with only the receiving SIM in. If a message says the code limit was exceeded, try again after 24 hours.
- Private message: the network may be unstable, you may not follow @微博安全中心 while blocking messages from people you do not follow, or you may have blocked that account. Follow it, then ask for the code again.
- A page that misbehaves: Weibo suggests clearing the browser cache or trying another browser, and resting if it says prompts are too frequent (page updated 11 October 2024).
- "Phone not supported" or "system error": Weibo suggests using a number that has verified this account before. For bind-phone errors -2, -3, -6, -10 and -11 a page updated 11 October 2024 says to bind a number local to where you are.
- The old number is gone: the change-phone page (updated 20 March 2026) offers Other verification (其他验证方式): enter the full old number, or use a face scan if you cannot remember it. If that fails, there is a manual request with supporting documents.
Restricted, frozen or banned: the official way back
- Read the notice. Weibo says the details of a penalty such as muting are usually sent by private message from @微博管理员 (page updated 26 June 2026).
- For a freeze after frequent actions such as mass messages, comments or ad posts, sign in, tap the verify button and complete an SMS check on the bound phone or a real-name face scan (page updated 1 August 2025). If the page says the limit is exceeded, try after 24 hours.
- If it says verification is too frequent, Weibo explains that the account was frozen several times in a short period and that repeated unfreezing in a short time is not allowed. It asks you to wait seven days (page updated 8 April 2024).
- For a ban notice, tap Verify now (立即验证), read the reason and penalty time, and if you are sure there was no violation press Appeal (申诉), add contact details and submit. The result comes by email or SMS (page updated 11 October 2024).
- If verification while removing an abnormality fails with a system-problem message ending in 600, Weibo asks you to remove multi-instance, clone and virtual-environment apps or plug-ins and restore the device's original security environment before retrying, and to switch device if the face scan still fails (page updated 13 January 2025). Do identity checks on an ordinary device of your own.
If someone else may have signed in
Weibo lists signs of theft: ads posted for you, profile details or the bound phone changed, the password changed, strange follows, fewer album photos, or a login device that is not yours (page updated 26 June 2026).
- Change the password. On a computer: Settings > Account security (账号安全) > Change password. If you cannot sign in, use Forgot password (忘记密码) on the sign-in page.
- Open Recent login records (最近登录记录) and sign out any device you do not recognise. Computer path: Settings > Account security > Recent login records.
- Keep the bound phone one you actually use.
Why several accounts on one computer meet more prompts
With dual login verification on, Weibo says an unfamiliar phone needs an SMS code and an unfamiliar computer needs a QR scan, and that a computer is not added to the trusted-device list (pages updated 13 January 2025). So a computer sign-in will often meet a check. Weibo also says several accounts from one IP address, and frequent QR scanning, can trigger restrictions.
Weibo's pages do not discuss two accounts clashing inside one browser; keeping each account in its own profile, where cookies are kept apart, removes that question. Nor do they say how Weibo decides what is familiar. Within its own wording, the sensible habits are to sign in to each account from the same place each time, to keep one account per browser profile (see the browser profiles article), to keep each account's phone at hand, and not to repeat attempts. The multi-login article covers the options.
Still stuck: where to turn
Message @微博客服 or call 4000960960, the hotline listed on the Help Center pages read. Feedback results appear under Service records (服务记录) in the Help Center, and Weibo notes that some forms can only be submitted after signing in to another account. For brand accounts see the business article; for what the rules allow, the rules article.
Where ADSSPEED fits
ADSSPEED, a desktop app for Windows and macOS, is built around browser profiles. A Weibo account kept in its own profile stays signed in with its own cookies, local data and browser settings, and is not signed out when you open another account, so you return to the same place each time. Profiles can be opened and stopped in bulk, and the data stays on your computer. Weibo's checks still apply to every account.
Use only accounts you own or are authorised to manage, and follow Weibo's rules. ADSSPEED is not affiliated with Weibo.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I not receiving the Weibo verification code?
For SMS codes Weibo lists security software filtering, carrier delay, a suspended or full phone, a number that differs from the bound one, and dual-SIM phones. For private message codes it lists a weak network, not following @微博安全中心 while blocking messages from strangers, or having blocked that account.
What is Weibo security verification?
Weibo's Help Center says that when you sign in with a password it needs an SMS or private message check for account safety. On a computer you can also scan a QR code from a Weibo account that is already signed in (page updated 26 June 2026).
Why was I logged out of Weibo while using it?
A Help Center page updated 8 June 2026 says this can happen when the account hits an unsafe situation. Sign in again, change the password promptly, keep the bound phone in use and share no passwords or codes with anyone.
What should I do if my Weibo account is locked?
Weibo's pages use other words: frozen (冻结), abnormal (账号异常) and protection state (保护状态). Tap Remove abnormality (解除异常) and verify by SMS to the bound phone or by a real-name face scan. For a ban notice, use the appeal route described in this article.
Can I log in to Weibo without a phone number?
Weibo's pages describe phone-based verification. If the old number is no longer in use, the change-phone page offers other verification methods, including a face scan, and a manual request with supporting documents. The pages read describe no way to skip verification.
Why does Weibo ask me to verify every time on my computer?
Pages updated 13 January 2025 say a phone that passes SMS verification can become a trusted device, but computers are not added to that list. A password sign-in on a computer therefore keeps ending in an SMS, private message or QR check.
